30 cal Bartlein Barrel
I have a few quesions about these barrels. Has anyone used them and are they worth the $$$? Will a 11-1/4" twist stabelize the 190,200 and 220gr Sierra MK's? I was looking for a Krieger with a1-10" but they're wait time is out to a five months now. Would you suggest anything else of equol or better preformance?
Thanks for the help, Joe

Bartlein's website says 6 to 8 months delivery time. Does someone have one in stock for sale?

Ramsgate,

Look up grizzly.com. The have over 20 listed in 6MM, 6.5MM, 7MM, 308 and 338. mostly target contours but supposedly all in stock. The say that they order a few hundred at a time so there isn't a wait. The closest on eot you is in Muncy Penn. USA. Export might be tricky for you though.
Good Luck, Joe

I had them put a 12 twist on a long range 300 Win sporter for me and it shoots perfect with 180 grain B.T.'s. Very happy with their quality...fully equal to a Krieger (I have a couple of those also) in my opinion.

I would be confident with the 11 twist and the 200 MK, but the 220 MK might be pushing it.

I have the Bartlein 1/11.25 5r on a 30-06 and Kreiger 1/11.25 5r on 300WSM and used Broughton 1/12 5c twist on another 300WSM and used 1/11 twist Lilja on a 30-338mag and 1/12 twist on another 30-338mag.

I've shot 200gr bullet in the 1/12 twist 30-338mag and 180gr in the Bartlein/Kreiger/Broughton barrels never tried anything heavier.

Mike Rock (Rock Creek barrels) makes a nice 5r barrel have one of his on 270Wby.

I like the 5r barrels and the Broughton barrel pretty nice also. I don't mind waiting on a good barrel.

With the 210gr Berger an 1-11" gets you about 1.4 using the Miller formula. I shoot 1-10" in .300WM.

Obermeyer, Krieger, Bartlein, Rock, all make fine bbls. Do yourself a favor and buy a Brux if you want another fine bbl in shorter time. I'd go 10 T. Brux barrels

Thanks for the input.
7mm freak, what's the miller for formula? It sounds like something I want to know.
Thanks, Joe

Krieger has a in stock inventory list and several of them have barrels in stock if you call and ask. bugholes.com has a ton of barrels in stock as does Bruno Shooter Supply.

I have two Bartlein barrel chambered in .243 AI and .30-8mm Rem Mag. I also have a 6.5 Blank. All of them are 5R rifling and the two I have chambered shoot in the .2" to .3" range at 100yds. With the best group out of the .30-8mm being .96" @ 550yds. That's less than 1". I wouldn't hesitate to use another but I'd use a Krieger, Obermeyer or Broughton in a heartbeat too.

The Miller Formula assigns a stability factor to a bullet. Your goal is to be above 1.4 at the muzzle.

Easiest way to calculate is to use JBM Ballistics.
http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi

It gives a better prediction than Greenhill in high velocity cartridges.

Hey Thanks 7mmfreak, this is very interesting and I'm definately going to use it on future gun builds.
