150g Accubond LR in 270 Weatherby or WSM
Anyone tried these yet? I just ordered a couple of hundred of them for my 270 Weatherby. Accuracy, velocity?

Thanks

Regards,

Chuck

I've used Accubonds in everything from 270 thru 375 with good results. They should fly great.

Are you guys talking Accubods or LR Accubonds?

From what I've seen so far the Weatherby might be a problem with its long free-bore. I tried the 7mm LR Accubonds in a STW and they were pathetic, perhaps because of the long jump on that chamber with that bullet profile. In another rifle with a very short throat they show real promise.

I've been trying to find some in to try in my custom M-70 in .270 Weatherby. I've read some really mixed results about them in .270 offering.

I am shooting 168gr Accubond LR's at 3,128fps from a 7mmRM with sub 1/2 groups at 100yds.

I would like to try them. Where do I find them to buy?

The report I've heard from hunters is that the ACB LR's are very accurate and ideal long range pills because of their high BC. I Also hear they are extremely frangible more so than even the Berger. The frangibility would give me pause if using this bullet for an all around hunting bullet. For me the straight ACB would be a better choice.

Marc where did you hear that one...from Berger fansSmiler

ABLR's are BONDED bullets, Bergers are not so I wonder where that rumor came from?

The ABLR's seem to expand a bit more than regular AB's but there is no way that you would call them frangible.

I've actually heard the same. That the ABLR is a very fragile bullet.

I have been seeing myself and hearing from others, the exact opposite rumor regarding ABLR accuracy from what Mark is hearing. Weird.

I've shot Accubonds in my 8x57 and 375 H&H.

I'll take Aframes or TSXs over them anyday.

My jury is still out on whether Sciroccos are tougher. I do know they over expand at close range at high velocity - learned first hand on an Eland in 2004.

Full disclosure that I have not shot any of the AccuBond LR bullets. I ordered them and never got them.

But I got some feedback from some guys that did and it mirrored some of the above posts. They reported less accuracy and bullets not holding together as well too as compared to the standard AB bullets.

I think it could be all be true. That they are as accurate, and that they aren't, at the same time.

Seating depth issues and maybe neck tension issues versus their standard AB loads could have some in to play.

Another thing that could be a factor is that these LR bullets take longer to stabilize in flight. So you load them up and go to the range and shoot at 100 yards and you find a bigger group size. So you try to work that out and never get out to 300 or 400 which might be a substantial improvement in MOA groups or the same as the 100 yard MOA but better than a standard AB at the longer ranges.

The same on the bullet reports. Maybe the LR has a bit more metal up front to blow away and then something is shot at a closer range with higher velocity and then the hunter notes the effect of that frangibility versus his standard AB.

That is just thoughts.

I have and use the AB as the standard 270 and 7mmRM bullets in 140 and 160gr respectively with excellent results.

This is the way I understand the LR too. That they are designed to open 'easier' so that as very long distances they will reliably open on game.

FOr the WBY or WSM, I would avoid them, personally, with the chance of ending up with a Ballistic Tip on shots under 300 yds. But that's just my unofficial opinion.

Here is a springbuck I shot with a .270Weatherby using 150grain ABLR. Distance was 389meters. Instant death!.
