300 Blackout
I just bought a 300 blackout - PWS MK 109 SBR. Buying SBR and suppressors before trust rules change.

Any thoughts on 300 blackout? I have stayed away from it trying to focus on military rifles on 7.62x39, 7.62x51 and 556.

Thanks,

Mike

this cartridge is really a story of two separate 300 BLK's.

I shoot my AR-pistol 300 with mostly sub-sonic 247gr cast loads. 1060 +/- fps loads. Once I started powder coating the cast, it ran like a champ. With jacketed, mostly 190gr SMK's there were no issues.

The "other" 300 is a near 30-30 equivalent with 125-135gr bullets around 2250-2400fps.

I think half the patrol officers on our PD own a pistol version.

it is a really neat round.

I have the "other", a Ruger American Compact 16" bbl. I'm loading 110-125 gr bullets and plan to use it as a "walking the woods" gun. I'm just starting to work with it. It is a cool round.

I did take a deer many seasons ago, using the 300 Whisper out of a 10" Contender. These two rounds are interchangeable I'm told.

It's a fine little cartridge. I have in both an AR and bolt gun platform. I only shoot subsonic through a suppressor using 220 round nose. These kill most effectively.

If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

The 1:8 twist wilson shoots tiny groups with 220. not so tiny with light lapuas.

I can almost throw a rock faster then the 300 Blackouts velocity..Id rather have a 30-30 SRC..but that's just for me. sofa

umm the 300 will break 2400 fps with 110gr bullets.
it makes a very nice 200+ yd rock chuck rifle that's easier to carry than a bag of potato chips.
they'll also drop 230gr cast bullets down into the quieter than a 22lr speed area but with enough oomph to cleanly take a deer out to 100yds with pin-point accuracy.
and everything in between seems to work the same way.
a 165 gr bullet at 15-1600 fps is more than enough to cleanly kill animals over 200 lbs out to 150 yds.
[or is it just in a 357 mag lever gun]

Amazing. That means you can probably throw a rock even faster than a 38 Special bullet.

It is the choice if you are using a suppressor.

What is the accuracy folks are getting out of the 300 blackout ?

I am thinking of form 1 one of Smith and Wesson mp 15 and larue. Can add uppers latter in 300 blackout and 556.

Thanks,

Mike

I have an upper with an Anderson barrel, 125 gr. Sierras shoot into about 1" at 100. Just started working with sub sonic loads so no info on that yet. hoping to get my stamp for my suppressor in the next month.

I have both platforms....bolt and AR. My supersonic load is pushing a 100gr Cutting Edge Raptor at 2500fps out of a 16" AR and 2464fps out of my Ruger bolt gun with a 16" barrel. Accuracy out of both is well under an inch at 100yds..several groups in the .375" to .50". With the suppressor, those loads sound about like a 22lr. My subsonic loads are with 225gr Outlaw State LLC bullets. They are very quiet with the suppressor and groups are under 1" at 100yds.

Works well on deer...

I never warmed up to it. Shot a few different rifles and other than the novelty of shooting suppressed I don't see the point. Maybe if I was night hunting hogs and wanted multiple kills it would be something to look at, but otherwise I'd use a 6.5 Grendel hands down and for a cheap pinker on an AR platform I use the 6x45.

Shoot straight, shoot often.
