BearbuckRuger M77 MK II 308 SS All Weather Range Report
Ok most of you all know of my headaches with my Weatherby MK V 7-08. Most also know that I picked up a Ruger 308win the other day. Well, I am in the barrel break in process. I have done the Fire one, clean, Fire one, clean for 10 shots and today done three cycles of Fire 3 and clean. I saw it happening as I fired, but went to pull the target when I was finished and all 9 shots are in the 3 inch black circle. In fact, I measured it and for 9 shots it was 1.96" I am thrilled with this. It has already beat the best I shot with the Weatherby and Im still in the break in. I used 150gr. Win. PP factory. How is that sounding. I know many of you all can shoot better than that, but hey after all the suffering Ive been going through with that 7-08 this was a very inspiring happy treat. Lets just hope it continues to be consistent and get better.

FarflungOrder some of Tubbs Final Finish. You'll smile even more

I just got done with my last fire lapping with it. The Riflings actually look different. When I started reading this forum, I learned about tool marks made during rifling and some problems that companies have with it (particularly Ruger, I gather). My rifle (M77) was suffering from a thrown 1st shot, which is indicative of a barrel in need of lapping. (It was bad enough that after shooting it in last season, I cleaned it as usual, then fired 1 shot to copper-up the riflings. I cleaned the barrel with Hoppe's 9 diluted into machine oil so I wouldn't loose too much copper.)
Anyway, Enjoy
