First non blaser rifle in 3-4 years. I stopped buying any rifles other than blasers after I got the first blaser.

Always wanted a Steyr SSG so I finally sent the $1400 to CDNN and got the rifle.

Put a leupold vxr scope on it. Shot it for first time.

Pretty good .7-.8 moa with match ammo. With a better scope and the right load this has the potential to be a sub .5 rifle.

The gun is very nice. The barrel is exceptional.

The plastic magazine sucks and cracked.

I am going to get a custom metal bottom for Europe.

I am going to hunt with it this weekend. It was exceptionally comfortable to shoot off the bench.

I may get another gun before cdnn sells out of the last 1000 rifles Steyr built.

This is a classic worth owning, shooting and hunting with.

Steyrs are a relatively undiscovered rifle that tend to be extremely accurate. I once bought a used Prohunter 308 that shot Hornady Light Mag 150gr SST's in to 1/4" groups on a regular bases.

I had the same experience with the Prohunter 308 and Black Hills Ammo. I didn't keep that rifle but wish I would have.

My current Model M Professional .30-06 shoots just like everyone I have owned, 1/2” groups with cheap Remington or Winchester ammo. I sighted this one in with the Kahles 6x42 using Winchester 180 gr ammo and it the last 5 shot group was close to 1/4”. I would think the SSGs will perform better.

Custom looks like McMillan does not make a stock anymore.

Replacement stocks sell for $450 - the stock is 51 year vintage in synthetic/plastic mounding.

I would add a metal bottom if I was replacing stock.

Just as an FYI I have a blued steel one piece Picatinney Rail the fits the Steyr SSG dovetail. Its a drive on base with a set screw on the top and functions much like the scope bases on a Sako rifle but obviously its one piece not two. In great shape. Worked great on my SSG and didn't mar the finish one bit. Allows you to use any weaver or milspec mount you want and aren't limited to the ring spacing you get with the Steyr ringmounts. I was over $120 when I ordered it from Europe a dozen years ago. Will let it go for a good price if anyone wants it.

I had a Steyr Luxus that had steel bottom metal and magazine in 7x57 and I went stupid and sold it!

Steyr's are nice rifles. One of my biggest regrets dates back to law school well over 30 years ago. I was summer clerking for a firm in Dallas that I didn't go to work for and is no longer in business (well that was a good decision), but back then, Abercrombie & Fitch was getting out of the firearms business. I frequented that store during my clerkship and got to know the manager. He had a .375 that he offered me for $1,500 payable over time. I've kicked myself for not buying that rifle, but at the time, I was trying to figure out how to pay next month's rent.

Finally got a Steyr light rifle that I plan on taking to Tanzania next year. Like the double set trigger for crocs.
