Need a .270?
I need to be stopped before I spend again! I've always had a .270 of some kind or another (#1, Carl Gustaf, Rem 700) but have traded them away. I'm now sitting on an 06, 7MM Mag, 6.5X55 Swede and a few unscoped levers. Do I really need a .270 or is it just nostalgia kicking in? Should I just forget it and spend the bucks on ammo. Ammo for a .270 is cheaper than 7MM or 6.5X55, but does it seem that I really have an unfilled niche here?

Take it from someone who is a bit biased as l've always had a 270 but l think one should be on the safe side and always have a 270 handy. [Wink]

Good luck!!!

Anacona:

No you don't need a 270. In fact you don't need to have anyone of the firearms you mentioned.

What does need have to do with it?

It is all WANT Son!

If you WANT one, get it!!

And If you have a woman who needs to know why you acquired one, remind yourself how many of the shoes, or jewelry she owns, did she really NEED? [Big Grin] [Roll Eyes] [Cool]

As much as I love the old 06 Improved-that is what I call the 270, with what you have save your money and put it into tires/gas/ and tags and get on the hill!!!!!!

If there is one cartridge that I don't need it is the .270.The 7mm's will do anything the 270's will and do them with a heavier bulet.

Ok, you got the go for the 270. Next you need a 8x57, then get a 6mm Remington. Lets see now after that, you should go for the 9.3x62. By all means, keep an open mind on other calibers..

I figured out why guys call their rifle a truck gun, you couldnt carry all of them at the same time... They are all in the truck!!!!

If this country were truly free, then every citizen would own a 270! [Eek!] [Big Grin] This cartridge probably generates as much controversy as any of the rest but itsagoodun!

One can NEVER have enough guns. Haven't you figured that out by now?

If you have an 06 & 7mag you don't "need" a .270. If you want a new toy, I would look heavier. What niche do you want to fill? If you want to stay in a std. action, go to a .338-06, Whelen or 9.3x62. If you want to go magnum, you can never go wrong w/ a .338 or the grand old .375h&h.

I agree with the 270 rules bunch. Always had one or more and I know I will always have my favorite 70. Oh and the heavy bullet idea doesn't hold water. Try loading the 270 with 150's or 170's and take them after Bear. You won't believe the results.

I think there should be a law requiring everyone to own a .270 Win. Anything more would just be icing on the cake. Bear in Fairbanks
