New barnes MRX
has anyone actually seen or shot the new barnes MRX? what kind of preformance did you get? I haven't seen any on the shelves around here yet. I am going to Bass Pro on Saturday and I will look there. I read an article on them this weekend. The author really talked them up and the test that they preformed with cow bones and ballistic gel were pretty impressive.

The December Barnes Newsletter seems to suggest availability only from Jan 06, so maybe this accounts for lack on the shelves at present, I imagine lots will have been rele3ased fro testing and writing up so as to promote anticipation for general release and advanced sales.

The question is, will they expand, I don't doubt they will be accurate, as Barnes seems to have finally got their accuracy act together with the TSX?

I wonder also what costs will be, Speer tried tungsten cores but constantly suffered from the high prices.

If you do get any inside info please share it with us

I assume the ballistic tip will help ensure reliable expansion for most of the non-believers out there. Although it is a bullet I definately plan to try I doubt that it will be notably different than the TSX in any hunting situation.

I agree. Of course the difference is they are about a dollar a bullet!

Barnes is touting this bullet as a "long range" number and i would imagine that the terminal performance is very similar to the TSX which is a little more affordable, just my 2...

Even if the plastic tip didn't make a noticable difference in how quickly it opens up, the couple hundred fps increase in impact velocity at long range will be a welcome change by itself. They look like they'll be very nice bullets to me.

I wonder if a loan application and credit check is needed for purchase? jumping

I think I'll keep buying factory second Partitions.

Will one be able to buy the new Winchester "Elite" XP3 bullets, which are essentially the same? I also note that Nosler is having a close out on their Failsafe bullets - maybe they're coming out with at BT Failsafe.

The xp-3 from winchester seem to be nothing like the Barnes Mr-x in performance.

The new mr-x is supposed to resist losing the petals and the core resists deforming because of the tungsten core.

The winchester bullet loses its petals and thecore mushrooms into a big blob.

I like this:
quote:
Winchester states this expansion of the rear section of the bullet is a "patent pending design (that) yields a unique two-stage expansion at both the front and in the body of the bullet, resulting in massive knockdown power."

Have the folks at Winchester never seen even a photo of a Swift A-Frame after it's been fired? Same sort of bulging, with the exception that the core DOESN'T seem break through the jacket.

Why they didn't just stick a plastic tip on the Fail-Safe is beyond me. homer Now, I guess I'll have to hoard some of the older stuff. Confused

If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.

The first thing I thought of was the swift too.
