sroseOK Remington 600. Might be ugly but is one wonderful little rifle. I used one for many years and wish I had it back.
A regular model 7 would be nice too.

larrysI voted for the Model 7, but then I am a light rifle person.

tjrobertsgreat round.
the model 7 cdl is a classy little rifle.

Tom SWell I'm gonna pick up the model 700 Mountain rifle tomorrow my main reason is because its stainless where as the CDL is blued.. now just gotta figure out if its gonna be 150,165,or 180 grain yo use

larrysIt is strange for me that my lighter barrels like the 150s and the heavier ones like the heavier bullets, but each rifle is art unto itself.

Rub LineI recently ordered a Model Seven CDL in .308 for a young man's first deer hunting rifle. It was postively the worst factory wood stock I've ever handled. I called Remington and they promptly sent me a new stock free of charge, but they're still not what they used to be, MHO. If I were to order a new model Seven it would have to be synthetic stocked.

waterratI carried my pre-64 30 Gibbs on my sheep hunt this fall and after pissing and moaning a bit about how heavy it was my brother in law gave me his Kimber Montana in 308. Trades were involved! I'm impressed with the Kimber and it shoots plenty good enough for me! As soon as a new calender year is upon us I will order a new Leupold 3X9 compact and have a Graf shipment here with Accubonds,TTXS,and Horn SST all in 150 to see what I'll hunt sheep with in 2013.

My hunting pardner tood this ram on our hunt and I passed on a fine ram myself being unable to get a decent as he was mingeling with 3 other rams and a windy 410 yds away!
I tend to use more than enough gun

ted thornI'd go Mod 7 in stainless and synthetic
But I'm not a Remington guy do I have a Kimber Montana in 3006

Hard to beat that setup, I have one in 7mm-08.

Tom SI agree wish Remington would bring back the model 7 stainless/synthetic or even a model 7 XCR II..........

Alberta CanuckAs you have now told us what you have decided to get, I guess now we are able to tell you what we would get.
If I could, I'd get a Remington Model 7, matte blue and composite, in .260 Rem.
I really. really like the Remingon Model 7, but don't like SS anywhere on my hunting rifles, regardless where I use them. I like wood-grain-finish composite stocks for their stability and appearance.
I do like the .308 cartridge, but a medium size 6.5 cartridge will kill just as well and has a higher sectional density which has always appealed to me. Plus, I already have somewhere between eight and a dozen .308s, so would opt for another 6.5 instead.
Oh, and I'd put a good quality 2-7X featherweight scope on it or, better yet, a featherweight fixed power 3X or 4X.
Regardless, it is YOUR rifle and your preference should be what guides you, not mine. I think either of the rifles you listed is a good choice for the hunter, so have at it, and ENJOY!!

paul.fWell!! I wouldn't buy either one, lot better rifles than Rems.
I have 308 win in Browning and Winchester and Sako. I get a Sako A7 in 308, fine and accurate off the shelf rifles.

Exactly. And he didn't say he wanted the world's best rifle, whatever it might be.
Which, is why for most American hunting, I would pick the one I mentioned in my post above if it was going to be another Remington.

DB BillI'd take the 700 because it's easier to find good scope mounts and I think it has a little longer magazine plus if you evr decide to get a new stock there are many more that wikk fut a 799 than there are for the model 7,
Having said all that, take a look at the Model 7 with the factory mannlicher laminated stock - oh so sweet

tjrobertsIf I wanted a 4th .308 I would look at the Ruger hawkey, wood and matt blue, they make a 20 incher with sights including a banded front that looks real cool.
If I bought one I would be tempted to restock it an use a barrel band sling swivell...tj3006
