Old Time LC SmithsWeatherby Mk V 30-06 Price?
After looking for a standard caliber rifle for my 15 y/o son I ran across the following from a dealer. He's been using a H&R 243 which I bought from the same dealer several years ago but want to move him up in caliber. What do folks think about this rifle and the price.
It's a Japanese made Weatherby Mark V in 30-06, 26 inch barrel, with a Leupold VX 3-9 scope in Lp rings. The gun is in excellent condition with only a few lite dings and scatches around the pistol grip and magazine. Asking price is $995.00.

ReloaderI would only give him 500-600 for the gun. Weatherby Rifles sit on the shelves at gunshops around here for years and they can usually be had in the 500-600 range sometimes alittle +/- that.
If it's a VX1, Id give him $150 and another $20 for the rings and bases.
That's considering this rifle is used.
If the scope is a VX II or III it'll be worth more say 200-300 or so.
I've noticed that gun values tend to vary a good deal from state to state or town to town. I try to stop in the shops when I travel.

SnowwolfeWhat reloader said sounds fair. It is not worth any more.

Old Time LC SmithsThanks for the info. I'll work on either a better deal or look around in other locations for a suitable rifle for him.
Thanks guys

D99Walk into the store, lay seven $100 bills on the counter and tell him the Weatherby is coming home with you or the $700 is.

Mark DobrenskiAround here that rig would be worth a darn site more than 500 or 600. But that is this area.
Easily 650 to 700 (it is a wood stock right?) and the scope should add 125-150.
I'd be for taking a close look and see what that gun is bringing in your parts.
Good luck
