ErikDScope mounts for bolt rifles.
What bases and rings do you prefer on your bolt rifles?
And does your choice let you remove and remount the scope without losing zero?

KurtC1. Claw mounts
2. Leupold QR
3. Jaeger side mount
All three are fast to remove and relace, and allow a near perfect return to zero.

nordrsetaLeupold QRS - holds zero, allowing a fella to protect the glass in transit or to bring along a spare
Leupold Dual Dovetail - scope is on for the duration
Weaver or Weaver-pattern - try to leave the scope on; more or less returns to zero

IdaredBuehler if scope is to be a permanent fixture.
Tally or Warne if they are to be quick detachable.

ted thornI love dual dovetail laped in for a rock solid mount. If I must use front dovetail rear windage as my Kimber has I re-machine the 45 degree counterbores in the rear ring with an EDM machine and a sharp graphite electrode and that makes them as solid as a dovetail!

woodsTalley's are the best I have, Weaver or Warne style are the next best, dual dovetail are acceptable, single dovetail and windage screws are the worst and most prone to failure.

6_5X57I started 20 years ago to hunt with EAW (quick detachable appel mounts) mounts, and they worked with medium bores. I went to africa with a .375 H&H and I had serious problems with EAW mounts. I cahnged to warne and the did the job in all my hunting circumstances. I still own a cuople of them in two bolt rifles.
Five years ago I discovered the talley mounts, and I have changed all the mounts of my bolts to talley. The worked as champions in bores from 404 j downwards. It is the mounting system iwould recommend to any people who wants to install an scope on a bolt rifle.
