This rifle has the push feed action. Excellent condition. Run of the mill Bushnell scope and weaver two piece bases. Owner wants $450. Good, bad, keep looking?

keep looking unless it is exactly what you want to keep for a long time......that is too near the upper end of the price range for caliber/mount/scope-older 70 series combo....for prices in my area...imo....might be a great shooter? but not much investment potential?..good luck and good shooting!!

That is way too much money for a private sale. Keep in mind that dealers must make a profit and will charge about that or less.

Thank you all for the feed back.

I plan to check out this rifle during my lunch break this afternoon. If it is the condition as advertised, what would be a good (and fair) asking price?

Alan,

I prefer the Winchesters in life. I would offer $400.00 for it.

If you don't have a burning hole in the gun safe, I am sure a Winchester is locateable for that price range or under.

At a local gun shop in Roseburg recently they had the same vintage area 30/06 Winchester in a Carbine Length from the factory. One of those ideas that was pretty neat but did not sell well. It was in excellent shape and went for $325.00.

I checked it out and it did not have a lot of wear or abuse on it, and had an excellent bore.

Maybe I need to check a few or our local pawn shops down this way for you.

Cheers and Good shooting

I don't mind the push-feed Model 70 action for general hunting, and when USRAC did away with the bolt sleeve cap and red cocking indicator in 1981 or thereabouts and went back to the original system, the PF Model 70 got a whole lot better.

I wouldn't have a problem with $450 if the rifle was dead-mint, completely original, hasn't been monkeyed with by a butcher, and is a known shooter -- and I mean five shots in an inch or less at 100 yds. If it's a two-inch gun or worse, and the trigger/cocking piece has been ground on and destroyed by a hack, the price is too high.

Try to shoot it first if the owner will let you. If he won't agree to a test shoot or won't furnish targets, but the gun is an unaltered gem and you're willing to assume some risk based upon unknown accuracy capability, offer him $350.

Thanks guys -

Turns out this rifle has been well used..bluing and stock in about 80%. AD, the rifle didn't appear to have been monkey'd with...just well used

Seafire...I may hit you up on that...if a SS Howa deal doesn't go through.

A nice push feed M-70 is not all that easy to find around these parts........it seems to me that Remington and Ruger were selling alot more rifles back in those days.........
