theback4033 caliber rifle?
Reading The Endurance
about Shackletons Antarctic explorations.
In it, they mention the .33 caliber rifle.
Anyone know what it was, 33 BSA or .333 Jef. or something else?

TX NimrodAccording to JJ Kinsey, Shackleton's agent, a .303 rifle, a .32 revolver, a .45 revolver and a 12 ga shotgun were shipped on his second voyage in 1907. The Christie's auction list of several of the Endurance firearms mentions a revolver, a 12-gauge shotgun and a .33(sic)-caliber rifle....which infers that it was not a .33 caliber. My money says a .303, a more powerful rifle was not required.

enfieldsparesOne should NEVER seem to postulate what original documents might of might not mena. But in this case I'd also agree with NIMROD that it was a .303 as the "sic" is important to it not being a .33.
And in any case the .330 BSA or .33 BSA post dates this. Some years ago here in UK a "Webley revolver carried on the Titanic was listed at auction.
Was White Star Line marked and etc., etc.. All genuine. Except that it was a Mar IV .38 and not made until many years after 1912.
