I might go and try it out today. My smith decided not to cut the barrel where the scratch is at and have me shoot it and see if we could break it in and smooth it down.I had to file the front blade insert a bit to get it to fit.I like this style-the old style was integral with the base. This was rebarrel was to replace a medium Palma. My heavy Palma Krieger is still shooting well and does not show much throat or rifling erosion.I like to see how this barrel does against my heavy Palma. This WL was sold to me as a heavy barrel but the Krieger has a slightly larger muzzle diameter and is therefore heavier.I believe the WL is longer however.

shootawayI wont shoot it today.I have had the flu for a week and I just finished work and I am enjoying a Johnnie walker Black.

AtkinsonLothar Walthers bore polishing process that is patented btw has without a doubt been the most accurate barrels I have ever used and by a long shot..I have used them all at one time or another but after being talked into LW barrels by Jim Brockman, Scott McCracken and Jack Belk, I am a convert and have been for the last 10 years..Never had one that wouldn't shoot under and inch.

Andre MertensI'm at my third LW bbl. (.222, .308, .338) and you can bet my future ones will come from Lothar Walther too. All are <MOA groupers and the most impressive of all in my .308 SS Match hand honed bull barrel I had installed on a shot-out Ruger MV II VT in .22-250.
Here are the rifle and 3 consecutive 5-shot groups. One more thing, as per today this bbl. totals 1130 shots and was cleaned (after each firing) with patch and brush only as it never attracted copper.

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

ForrestBMaybe you could tighten up that group a bit if you left the rum at home.

Dr. LouWhat size shot and choke you using?

Last time I saw a rifle through a pattern like that was when I sighted in my mini 14.

Chief EngineerDon't be discouraged. It will generally take a hundred or so rounds before it starts to Group.
Hang in there.

shootawayI now have some fireformed cases and things should be really accurate next time out.

shootawayI shot my rifle offhand today.I was shivering from the cold and started out good but shooting went bad fast.I will not post the target. At least I was able to call my shots-high or wide...I am still shivering as I type this.I got into a long discussion with a fellow over his Sako 338 Lapua. It was brand new and shot nice groups out far.I shouldnt of stood out in the cold without my longjohns talking to him for an hour before I shot.
O
The group shot off the bench seemed very good.

shootawayI brought both my 308's to the range yesterday and shot 100rds off hand.I had one of the worst sight pictures despite the bright light. There was too much light reflecting off the snow and back at me.It was good however to get out there, lift my heavy rifles and shoot them the way they should be shot. The bright light resulted in verticle dispersion of the group,IMO.This was the case with both rifles.I am noticing that the more I shoot the greater control I have over trigger pull and timed trigger release. There is less pulling or erroneous shots and shooting well is becoming more dependant on seeing the target and sights well or sight picture.
16 March 2014, 23:27
shootawayJust forget about the verticle dispersion. It turns out that I did not set my scale right and loaded my rds 5 grains over. What a relief-as if I did not have enough problems already.
5 grains over can get earn you a face full of steel & splinters. Pay attention got God's sakes.

MJinesHelps you appreciate his decision to wear a helmet when he shoots.
Mike
I forgot about the helmet, Shootaway, you're good to go.

shootawayI shoot 36.5gr of Varget so 41.5 is still not that high.I used to shoot 40.5gr.I shot again today and it seems that I was right about the verticle dispersion and the bright light-at least I believe so.No reason for my group pattern to take on a vertlcle spread all of a sudden. This was shot using my Krieger.

GrenadierGeorge - was that shot with your new barrel? If so, what rifle, and what distance?
.
17 March 2014, 13:43
shootawayNo it was shot with my Krieger barreled 308 rifle. The distance was 100yds.
21 March 2014, 02:32
shootawayShot this target today with my Walter Lothar Barreled rifle. It was a cloudy day and I did not get vertical dispersion on the target.I tried to keep it low at times because of the results I got last time but sight picture was correct this time around.

How do you think he got the handle "Shoot-away"?

ForrestBThe talented folks at Krieger must be cringing at their new spokesmodel.

shootawayThe LW barrel has a 1-11 twist or a 1-11 3/4-cant remember.I am shooting 168gr Hornady BT's. The barrel took 2 fouling shots before it settled and grouped 3 rds in about an inch and then 4 rds in about the same. This is with open sights off the bench.

shootawayShot this today.it was very windy. It started to get too windy so I had to stop shooting.
