25yrd zero for 7.62x39 for 100 yrds?
Aloha all, Great site and first post. Just ordered a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 for my son's first hunting rifle. I was wondering if anybody has the zero for 25yrds for a 100yrd target. Ammo will be Winchester 123gr. soft point. Also the bullet drop at 150? Mahalo, Maika

Zero with a scope.

Go to www.huntingnut.com and download the free "Point Blank". It will calculate all this stuff for you.

pineapple.... I tried this using a bc of .256... don't know if that's exactly right for the winchester... with a guessed muzzle velocity of 2150fps, and your scope 1.5" above boreline, if you impact .3" low at 25yds, you should be on at 100yds, and 3" low at 150yds. I think a more practical zero would be dead on at 25yds, which puts you 2" high at 100yds, dead on at 150yds, and 5" low at 200yds..... as near as I can tell.

Thanks for the replies. Just got a call today that the rifle came in. Will use a leupold 1.75x6 to zero. Local range closed and the KD range is 200. Too far for my son to shoot. Want to keep the shot within 100. Mahalo, Maika

Hey Maika, Shooting at 25yds is a good idea to get your son onto the Target. But, once that is done, I'd strongly encourage you get him shooting out to the actual distance he intends to eventually be taking shots.

Normally the Ranges I frequent will allow you to put up a temporary target at any distance you desire "as long as" a bullet passing through the target will impact with a distant berm. Something as simple as a tall cardboard box, or a small wooden frame, that you can tape a target to can be used. Then just take it with you when you leave the Range.

Best of luck to your son.
