PICS ADDED - Winchester Model 70 Classic Super Express in 338WM

I saw one of these for sale. A New Haven, Conn. manufactured Model 70 .338WM in the Classic Super Express model. It was said that only 100 of these were made as part of a special run in 2004 and that the gun was not catalogued by Winchester.

Red butt pad, express sights, dual cross bolts and, of course, CRF.

Anyone know about the truth of this claim?

Also, it is offered NIB at $1500.

Iam pretty sure they were a special run for the shotshow the year they were made,if you bought one,it was at the shotshow only...the price is right,thats what the few i have seen were going for on gunbroker...they are rare..hope this helps

I am not sure about it being catalogued or not, but the red butt pad indicates it was a USRA/Pre-FN build, which for the most part I have found to be a good thing.

Too bad Winchester and Ruger don't/didn't offer smaller, identical versions of their big bores in classic safari cartridges.

Three was one last year at a Gander Mountain store in Lakeville Minnesota of all places. The price tag was under $1000. Needless to say, it didn't last long.

Looks great! That version of the Winchester stock is my favorite.

I bought a take-off barrel from a Super Express like that and put it on a 7 mag action that was gathering dust...I'm happy with it. Only difference is mine didn't have a barrel band sling mount.

Just about the perfect plains game gun. Especially if paired up with a 416 Rem. for the bigger stuff.

EXACTLY my thought. I've been a fan of a 458 and a 375 for a safari battery, but I've recently decided a 338 and a 416 might be the perfect combo for me. Now on to the 416.
