Quandry - Lazz 7.21 Firebird or 7.82 Warbird in Sako TRG-S
General Question: [Confused]

Looking to buy either a Lazz 7.21 Firebird or 7.82 Warbird in Sako TRG-S. Will use for long range (600+ yd) work against deer. [Big Grin] Anyone recommend 1 caliber over the other?

I've had numerous Rem 700 SF Sendaros in most all the chamberings (plus a few wildcats).

Looking for advice, input, feedback on the gun (Sako TRG-S), cartridges (Lazz cartridges in general), etc.

Thanx in advance.

put a custom barrel in 7stw on a senduro and it will outperform the lazz cartridge in a TRG, due to the fact that to meet Lazz's factory specs it needs a 28" barrel, The TRG only has a 26". my custom barreled STW will clock 3600+ fps with a 140, and do it alot cheaper than the firebird.

Thanx for the feedback.

Something to mull over.

I have the trgs in 30-378. It is a very fussy shooter. People in the know seem to think it is due to a very small recoil lug/bedding problem. Maybe lazzeroni addresses this problem.
I'll throw you a curve ball here--if it would be me looking to get my best chance of factory accuracy in a "hot" new caliber it would be a Savage in an ultra mag of you choice. They're so reasonably priced that if you don't like it you wouldn't lose much selling it!!! Evidently savage makes a good enough firearm that Lazzeroni sells it too!!

I had a 300 RUM build on a TRG-S 3 years ago. 27" gain twist barrel shoots 180 SST at 3425fps into .5 inch. I have had no problems and the rifle feeds and functions perfectly. I would like to have one built in 375 RUM but can't find a donor rifle.

I'd NEVER do ANY Lazzeroni, just on the fact that all the brass available is pure garbage. It inhibits the potential of the cartridges. I've been playing with a Warbird. The cartridge is good but the brass available is unbelievably awful. Variances as high as 50 grains, varying wall thickness, eccentric, etc. You can get the same performance from many other cartridges where better brass is available.

GROWLER--Your post has me thinking. The trgs in 30-378 didn't have much room in the clip. Maybe the conversion to rum would let you "hang out" the bullet a little more?? Also--did your gunsmith do anything about the recoil lug?? Overall I like the gun as far as smoothness etc goes but just havent got repeatable accuracy. It really was a cheap gun (brand new about $625) so to "convert" it a little wouldn't be a bad investment!! Tell us what you did to your please.
