Hence the term "Texas Heart Shot".
Why a Texas heart shot- are you calling Texans tater holes??
Why did the name come about?? Ribbing a little bit but really a serious inquiry.

DWrightI believe what ol' DB Cooper is refering to is shooting a game animal through the heart, by going through the anus, (tater hole), then into the heart. Not to sure as to why it's a 'Texas' heart shot, so to speak, but have heard it as that for the last 50 years.

D B CooperDidn't mean to offend anyone, but DWright is correct. I grew up in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon and for as long as I can remember if you hit a Deer or Elk in the rectum, it was referred to as a "Texas Heart Shot".
I have no idea where it originated nor why. It was just a point of good natured hazing by fellow hunters.
On more that occasion, on the ooposite side of the world, I witnessed a direct hit in the shoulder socket (with a .223 (5.56). Instead of penetrating the socket, it richocheted out the top of the poor guys shoulder Second round dropped him like a rock. Another occasion was a hit on the hip socket, ricocheting into his manhood. Bullet was recovered and flat as pancake. Needless to say, he had no more fight in him. It could have been that the .338 bullet struck the round part of the bone and exited "God knows where!!" Just an idea born out of experience. You could shoot that rifle 500 more times at game and never happen again.
Good unting.
