Johan, its already been re-chambered to 35 whelen (358-06), so that's done. its got a decent walnut stock on it and eventually I will have some very simple, basic scroll-work done on the reciever and trigger-guard.

This will be my "one rifle." yes, I have others, but this will be the most-used. good for small bears, deer, elk, moose, and most of africa. pronghorn and sheep will garner use of a quarter-bore, but other than that, this one is it.

as far as appearance, I'm about as traditional as they come. eventually, I'll re-stock it with a very nice piece of walnut, and it will be identifiable as one of a defined collection of mausers (we (me and dad) would like to eventually have all the '06-based cartridges in Mauser 98s).

while I do love a beautifully executed gun... I have a problem with anything that I feel I can't use... and any mauser that sits on a shelf while a bloody remmington gets used in its stead is a bloody crying shame.

I know Ray, and he will be pleased with the rifle.

Jim... THANK YOU for your patience with me! I know I'm a pain to work with... hope I didn't cramp your style.

Well, I'm buying a Mauser 98 sporter from forum member Jim Dodd, and he just sent me the markings...

reciever:

WAFFENFABRIK
MAUSER AG
OBERNDORF
1918

left side:

Gew. 98

looks like a 1918 Oberndorf Mauser K98.

WOOHOO!!!!

Jim, let me know when you get the check!
