Nice rifle. I've got two Springfield sporters, they are among my favorites. I'm gonna have to say that it does look like the front sight may have been supplied by Bubba's Gunsites. I've never seen one like it.

not bad at all....Bubba usually don't fit recoil pads like that nor does he do schnabel forend tips nor does he do checkering.....all nicely done on this springfield.

Rebarrel that guy to .35 whelen and you will have something special.

Thought about having it rebored bu tit is a low number job. I feel safe with it at factory '06 loads but I ain't sure about the Whelen.

I think you'd be OK with the Whelen. Near as I can tell, Remington factory ammo is loaded to the same pressure as the 30-06. There are way too many low numbered Springfields and 1895 Winchesters that were 30-06 that were converted to the .35 Whelen. This leads me to believe that Remington would, out of liability concerns keep pressures low in their factory ammo. Of course handloads would raise the bar, but it's easy enough to keep them at factory levels.
Whether you rebore it to the .35 or leave it be, that's one slick looking rifle.

I was thinking about even rebarreling to a 22-6mm but something has come up so I am going to sell it and let someone else play with it.

Find a nice rifle like that and screw it up by rebarreling it! That does not make since..Use it just like it is or sell it to someone who can appreciate it, like me for instance. If you want to sell it call me at 208-731-4120, I will be vacationing in Texas for the next 10 days.
