It's kinda like the word "whelm"....we've all been "overwhelmed" but I've never heard anyone say they was just "whelmed" and certainly I've never heard anyone being "underwhelmed"
Take it from there.

I say "underwhelmed" all the time. Use it for a synonym for disappointed with or to describe something that's pretty meaningless or something that I'm not impressed by.

What I mean, I suppose is what have you been underwhelmed with (cartridge wise)?

If I can just skip the next six posts after your first one, they've sooooo underwhelmed me Big Grin
think of cartridges with big holes & small bodies as being under bore as opposed to those with small holes & big bodies that were over bore. Things like the 358 Win, 6mm/222, 416 Taylor, 458 Win Mag & a heap of other similar to these.

Wouldn´t the 9.3x62 be underbore? The 9.3x57 is another candidate and the 10.75x68 could be another one.

homerUnderbored means there is not enough energy in the powder charge to overcome the total barrel resistance to the projectile, which never became a projectile cause it got stuck in the barrel. shockerroger

Underbore is what my wife claims I am. In reference to rifles, it is where a reduction in barrel length would increase the velocity, i.e., a 22 long rifle would see an increase in velocity by reducing the barrel length from 32" to 30" for example

I can only think of one. The .35 remington. Don't get me wrong its a damn fine killer up close. But Its a bit weak for a .35 caliber. I think the .358 is about bottom line for .35 caliber velocity/performance. That said the damned old .35rem has killed scads of beasts. So maybe there is no underbore, just distances to far with certain calibers.

So does a perfect bore's bullet reach the end of the barrel and still be in the gun or does it fall out of the barrel. bewildered

Seeley Masker once told me any sporting cartridge where the powder charge is less than 40% of the bullet weight. The 22 Hornet is probably the best of the underbore cartridges, the 30-378Wbee the worst of the overbore offerings.

& by definition, every bullet weight in every caliber must have an ideal bore size to cartridge size ratio for any suitable powder, &... Oh hell who can be bothered but I reckon I've got the drift now Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
