now I am courious about
If you could only have or load 1 load for a 300 WIN MAG what would it be. (Remington 700 26" barrel)
The rifle is to be used in the west hunting Deer, Elk and Bear. 100-400 yards.

With my personal rifles I have always tried to get 1 load that works really well and not be switching loads and scope adjustments. If I want to shoot something different I take a different rifle.

Lets hear your opinions please.

Win cases, Fed 215 primers 73 grs of IMR 4831 and a 180 gr Barnes TTSX bullet. This is near max and I would advise you to start @ 69 grs and work up carefully watching for signs of excessive pressure in your rifle.

180 grain North Fork or Nosler Partition with 76 grains of RL-22 and Federal 210M primer. 8 hunters in my Elk hunting crew use this load and have taken many Bulls over the years with it. Good shooting.

I'd throw a nice and heavy dose of RL-22 in the case with a 168gr Barnes TSX sitting on top.

Each rifle is a rule unto itself, so nobody's "pet" load is necessarily going to perform well in another rifle of the same chambering.

However, I only see need of a single load for the .300 Win, tailored in whatever way necessary to perform well in your rifle. The load would consist of a high-quality 180 grain spitzer (I use a Nosler Partition or Accubond) that is propelled by a charge of powder which is slow enough to nearly fill the case (I use RL-25, but IMR-7828, H-4831, RL-22, N-MRP, and several others might work best in your rifle), propelled at a velocity between 3,000 and 3,100 fps (depending on the length of and how "fast" your barrel is). Such a load will take any game that a .300 magnum is capable of taking and will provide a flat enough trajectory to allow its use at optimal yardage.

Some people will prefer a heavier bullet, especially for game like elk and moose. A heavier bullet is fine, but it won't really do anything that a 180 won't do. And a heavier bullet puts you at a slight disadvantage at extreme ranges on lighter game due to its more curved trajectory.

+1 on the 200gr bullet. If'n you're gonna shoot a lighter bullet, why not use a 30-06? Or even a .308?

180's seem to be magic in the 300 Winchester and Nosler's protected point is my favorite. IMR7828 and RL22 sparked by Federal's 215M have proven themselves over the years in many different rifles.

This is also what I shoot. Mostly because I dote on speed and because the gun in question shot this load sensationally well. So far, it has worked well.

200 grain Accubond all the way.

vit 560 and the 180gr tsx in Lapua cases.Nothing walked away from this and I once had a 5 shot one hole group at 200yds.No pressure issues either.

Mine is 74.0gr of RL-22 with Federal 215 primers and 180gr Accubonds. Gives me under 0.5" 5-shot groups @ 100m. Setup @ 3.5" HIgh @ 100m.

TTSX would be my next choice.

I just tried Berger VLD Match Hunting bullets for the first time and they are sensational. The 185's and 190's are easy .5 MOA out of my Weatherby Accumark. I am shocked I found a hunting bullet more accurate than the Barnes TTSX for this rifle. But a lot of the bullets mentioned above will be great. You just have to try them all and see what works best.

Rifles are like getting a box of mixed chocolates. You get this wide assortment of flavors but there are only a few you really like. Have fun sorting it out.

Lapua used to make .300 Win Mag brass for quite a few years. Quite pricey.

Just like a lot of other calibers, they stopped making it - or so it seems.

My A-bolt likes 75gr of RL-22...cci mag rifle primer and 180gr Failsafes...still have three boxes of bullets sitting on the shelf...That combination sure knocks those Elk down , when I do my part...

180 gr Barnes TSX ahead of IMR7828 is my current pet load for mu 300 WM.
