ConGryphon,
I'm taking the 1:12" option for mine as I want absolutely no stability issues with the 310gr Woodleigh.
Cheers...

ConThe longer projectiles require the faster twist rates. If you have the option to use a faster 1:12" twist might as well take it and be certain of using the 310gr Woodleigh if you ever want to give it a try, like the FMJ on a buff hunt. No point having a race car and placing a limiter in it

. I have a feeling that Norma standardised on a 1:12" either way for their 358NM. For what its worth, mine will be fed 250gr Nosler Partitions.

GerardThe
C.I.P. specification for the 358NM is 1:12"
Go for a 1:12" or tighter, if it is available.

gryphon1Ok Con mine wouldnt be used for buff at all only sambar, what are my choices bearing in mind that nosler partitions in my little 308 Norma Mag go straight through most animals let alone a hard hitter like the 358

Congryphon,
Softest projectile I'd be willing to shoot would be the Sierra 225gr GameKing boat-tail. It may be a bomb at near 3000fps and average Sambar ranges though. The Woodleigh 225gr RN and Woodleigh 250gr RN from the 358Norma will be starting atleast 200fps faster than their recommended impact velocities. I reckon they'll turn into big broad pancakes, but hold together okay. I think that broadside it'll be a struggle to keep any of these projectiles inside a Sambar. There are also some 200gr Spire-Points but I'd be suspect of them not fragmenting up close, the 200gr Core-Lokt PSP has a good reputation though in the Whelen and 350RM, when you can find them. Given your experience on Sambar with the 7mmRemMag, the 358Norma is going to hardly be needed, but it'll be a fun hammer!

Cheers...

RickFMine is 1:12. It groups 225 triple shocks under 3/4", so I don't see "overstabilization" as a problem.
1 in 12.

gryphon1Yes Con i have had some success and rarely ever take my 308NM out these days and for my deer i dont really need another calibre but i might have need for a hammer in the future, possibly O/S
