270 pump
Does anyone else make a 270 pump other than Remington?

Actually browning did make a pump recently but I am not sure if they still do.There is actually very little interest in pumps these days so no-one else is building them.

Wannabee, I believe Browning quit making them two years ago but there's nothing wrong with the Remington. I've had a .35 Whelen in a 7600 since they first came out. My next one is going to be the .30-06 in the synthetic carbine. I don't care for Remington's bolt actions but I wouldn't hesitate to buy Remington where the 7600 is concerned. I've had zero problems with mine.

thanx Savage, how long ago did rem make the .35whelen in the 7600?

Wannabee, if memory serves me correctly they first showed up in the US around 1989, and we got them up here a couple of years later. I believe they stopped making them in the Whelen around 1996 or 1997. I read on one of the boards here earlier this year that Remington did a special run of them this year but I don't imagine they'll last long.

What's your accuracy with the 35 Whelen?
14 September 2003, 17:04
savage49494
Pop, if I'm having a good day about 1.25" to 1.5". My son can usually get .9" to 1.25". Not quite as good as my .338 but good enough for what I need.

Savage; I also have a 7600 in .35 Whelen that I bought back in 88-89. It carries a straight 4X Leupold right now. It is plain devestating on moose and caribou. I have never recovered a bullet form either. Ptargiman are no match either. [Roll Eyes]

It will also shoot aroun 1 1/2" at a 100 yards. It is a quick pointing and fast to reload rifle. I did hae a minor problem wotht he magazine from shipping it too much but worked the problem out.

Love it!

Dave, I think the 7600 is one of the most underrated rifles around. I don't always need something as big as the Whelen and I want something a little handier, that's why I'm going to get the .30-06 carbine in the synthetic model.

Wannabee, I kind of figured you forgot about it, I hope you get it. Let us know if you do, you are going to be pleasantly surprised. Oh, by the way, speaking of threads you forgot about, what happened to the Eagles' second game? McNabb spent more time on the canvas than a fighter throwing a fight. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Pop, THAT is impressive. BTW I like your choice of bullet weight, it seems to be the best choice for all purpose use. Congratulations.
