55 Grain Accelorator In .300 RUM
I was just thinking about the .30-06 round with the 55 Grain accelerator and I thought about pulling the bullet out of that round and putting it in a 300 Rum. How much powder would be used? What would be the approx. velocities from this round? The -06 is getting 4080 fps out of the factory. [Roll Eyes]

Trapshooter,

What has been published on the saboted rounds that Remington was selling is they used a special powder. I believe they discontinued the '06 loadings a few years back.

Sales were reported to be low because the accuracy was not great.

I tried these sabots some years ago when they were first available. I got about 4300 fps out of a 300 Win. Mag. but groups were 12-14".

There is an article in the back of my COTW about saboted rounds. In it he talks about the Accelerater and says that Remington did develop a special powder that was never released to the average joe. However he then goes on to talk about using sobots for muzzleloaders in a 45-70 to launch .35 bullets.
