my dad and i are going on a cull hunt for bison in early jan. he is shooting a 270wthby and he doesnt know what bullet to shoot. he said that he would use a scirocco but i didnt like that idea and told him to get some barnes. thinking maybe the 140tsx.
any ideas?

AtkinsonI would shoot a 160 gr. Barnes X, Swift partition or Nosler partition...The Northfork is another excellent choice and I would slow the bullet down to about 2900 FPS or less....The Sirocco is not ment for shooting big tough animals...

Chuck NelsonShoot 160gr partitions and hit it in the right spot and it will die. X's, fail safes, a frames, trophy bonded will all work just as well. I would also recommend good old flat base cup and core bullets over the Scirocco.

445 supermagI just ordered and got in the mail the 140 gr tsx for my 270 weatherby mag and can't wait to try them out. That is an awefully small bullet for a bison but then again I love my 270 weatherby too and think very highly of it. I would deffinately shoot either a TSX or failsafe or TBBC or partition style bullet oh and or also A-frame. That would put the odds in your favor. Good luck and let us know how it went and how the 270 weatherby mag did and with what bullet was used I would love to hear how it did on such a large animal.

Sask_Hunteri ordered some 140tsxs today. north forks arent avalible around here. partitions are another choice but i like what the barnes has done in the past. im going to used either a 140xlc or 160tbbc in my 7 mag.
