Does anyone have any experience with this bullet in a .30-06? It seems like it might give classic early-1900s type performance on game, i.e., a heavy-for caliber bullet of great sectional density at moderate speed. I'm just cleaning up a very basic sporter on a Springfield, using a Lyman aperture rear. It is begging me to try a classic load.

I have no experience with that bullet but just want to encourage you to try it! I agree that your thinking is in the right direction.....

I always think of the 30-06 as a 300 yard gun with 180s at 2,800'/sec!....However it has every potential to be a very big game gun at 100 yards throwing the 240s at 2,200'/sec!.....(I'm guessing at the velocity here.....)

It´s a really good thing, however get ready for some recoil, the difference between a 240 and a 150 grain bullet is substantial...

Is this CUP or PSI? I know, this discussion has been held ad nauseum on here, but if it is PSI it is one thing, if it is CUP it is something else. Regardless, those numbers look pretty darned hot to me.

that 56 gn of MRP is the same load PHIL SHOEMAKER USES behind the 240 gn woodleigh and he likes it

Sorry friend.....62,800 PSI is not too far from factory loaded .270 Winchester loads and I'd disagree that this is too much for a 30-06 in a modern bolt rifle.

M98 (Dan from down under) is one of our steller posters and has done a lot of pressure testing and if he says it.....I tend to believe it!

Great option for busting big stuff.

One must also give allot of respect for the 30-06 case design,as it's neck has the length to accommodate such a bullet.

Same goes with the 35 Whelen & 310gn Woodleigh's,damn that bullet would smack/dig deep on big game.Energy being around the 3500ft/lbs at the muzzle.

The more you look into the 30-06 & it's family of cases the more I admire them.
IMO it's a very sensible & well thought out case ,as is the GREAT 308W & it's family!

hopefully i can bust some big scrub bulls brumbies and pigs later on in the year and thereby give them a bit of a work out and see how they perform, and report back on there performance

Agreed. I am not pointing fingers, it just seemed to me that the numbers were pretty high. That is why I said what I did. I am pretty conservative by nature. Some of the others of us are not so. All part of the same world.

I do know that each rifle is an entity unto itself, and each rifle has to be loaded to its potential, taking differences into account.

I have been pleased with the 220 gr. in the 06, but I sure intend to try and shoot something with that 240 gr. bullet, I love heavy Woodleighs, and have a lot of experience with the 350 gr. .375 and 450 gr. 416 bullets, so I suspect this is an extension to the success of those two heavy bullets.

I bet it will prove a dandy bullet in my old 300 H&H. Sounds like a recipe for Eland or elk in the black timber.

And I thought that 220 grain Noslers and Woodleighs were good!! There is always something new and better
