Anyone Shooting The 30-40?
Found this box of 30-40 cartridges and cases today. Any interest and I will take a count of what is there and put them up on Classifieds.

Most are loaded rounds, some empty cases, some primed cases. Approx. 150 total.

Yes I'm interested
I have a sweet 30/40 sporter that I am thinking about using for deer in OK this year.

SAMMI pressure spec for the 30/40 Krag is close to that of the 308 Marlin Express.

Not in years but I swapped for cut down carbine Krag rifle In 30-40 in my youth, I still love that SLICKER N SNOT action, I killed a few deer with it, but traded it off I mean hell it didn't even have a lever on it and that's not the cowboy way...Wish I had one today..Then I later had a Win. 95 carbine in 30-40, another in 30-03 and my last one was a new model Win 95 carbine in 30-06 and I really hate that I sold that one. I did away with the grip safety and returned it to the hammer safety..

When I shoot my Dad's Krag at the bench, I can open the bolt and catch the ejected cartridge in my right hand before it hits the bench.

I don't think there is a slicker bolt action than a military Krag that has been cycled thousands of times.

If you reload, the Hornady 160 gr FTX bullets designed for the 308 Marlin Express can be loaded to 3.145" OAL and they will feed like greased sausages.

With Rl-17 2600 fps is easy to achieve without exceeding 42K chamber pressure.

This target was shot with the 160 gr FTX designed for the 30/30. The 30/30 bullet proved too frangible for the Mv churned out by the Krag. Since the Krag duplicates the ballistics of the 308 ME I switched to that bullet.

Bill Leeper
I have several 30/40's
A #4 Lee Enfield
A Ruger 77
A P14
A 40X
A Martini
Only the #4 and the P14 are magazine rifles. They feed well. I've not tried to feed a greased sausage through either one but doubt they would handle beef or pork very well. Regards, Bill.
