Anschutz is making a safari rifle

Double Rifle

Pretty interesting; open iron sights, ebony tip, case-hardening finish, golden colored parts, sling swivels, and fitted case. I'm familiar with the 1782 base action and its extremely smooth push feed so this could be fun to play with. Not much information but a Czech site apparently lists it for what equals to ~$11,000 or ~$9,000 without tax.

That is a beautiful rifle, but Anschutz is just another company, and they can screw up like any other company. I bought a new 1782in 9.3x62. When it arrived I couldn’t wait to put my borecam down the barrel to see a world class rifle. Boy was I in for a huge disappointment. The cutting tool for the rifling grooves must had gone haywire and it gouged a grove in the bottoms of all four grooves. There’s no way you would have gotten a proper gas seal with the damage. I immediately sent it back to the seller, who was great about getting me a mailing label and sending it off to the warranty repair depot for a new barrel. After 14 months, and nothing but crickets from Anschutz, the seller refunded me my money. I have taken Anschutz of my buying list of rifles. Very poor customer service.

Thanks for you input. Would you happen to have the video of this bore? Would be a great learning tool for me since I never saw the inside of a bore via those cams. Regards

I can enjoy the craftsmanship and work put into this rifle a lot.

But for everyday banging around in the bush or truck..

I'll take my stainless syt stock Ruger MKII and not lose thousands of dollars.

Because of the dings scratches one gets just from using a rifle.

I probably have the worst looking rifle on safari.

I built it myself one afternoon.

Couldn’t find a decent stock for it, and installed it in an MPI stock the fit the action length, but wasn’t deep enough for the magazine.

And worse of all, I made a mistake while while setting the barrel and the threading tool.

It takes ages to makes sure the barrel is straight in the lathe, and I wasn’t about to reset the barrel and start all over again.

I wasn’t able to cut the thread all the way to the shank.

To be able to do it, I had to chamfer the shank end of the barrel for a bit.

Now the barrel is installed on the action, it looks like the barrel is loose!

My friend Dwight Scott saw this on safari, and being himself, said “Oh JEEZ Saeed! Your barrel is LOOSE!”

I laughed, “Dwight, the only thing loose here are a few screws in your HEAD!”

“Why did you do it like this?”

“I made a mistake”

“I TOLD you many times! Stay away from a lathe!”

Nice to have friends who know better than you, and appreciate your workmanship!

I'd take it out and put all sorts of dings and marks on it to give it character and make it mine. My Rolex is basically covered in scratches but I love it because each is a memory from an adventure

I really don't like those military-looking scope mounts. I wonder if they are integral to the action?

The comb nose on the stock is practically a right angle, like you'd find on a synthetic "tactical" stock.

It seems as though the rifle makers couldn't figure out whether to make the rifle "pretty" or utilitarian so created a hybrid-looking thing.

I would have thought they were hammer rifled.
