Went to gun shop and traded in my 300 RUM on a 338 Win Mag since I love the 300 WSM I got and decided I didn't want 2 300 mags so I need to get ammo for the 338 Win Mag and narrowed it down to 180 grain Accubond,210 Partitions,or 225 Accubonds this will be my elk rifle for this coming year so what does everyone recommend?

My choice would have been the 200 Accubond. Second the 210Part.. Then again no flies on the 2225.

Barnes 210 Tipped TSX (TTSX). Accurate, flat shooting, and extremely lethal.

Another vote for the 210 gr TTSX. However none of the other bullets mentioned are bad choices .

Federal used to make two HE loadings for the 338WM
1) 225 TBBC @ 2900 FPS
2) 250 NP @ 2800 FPS.

Both shot well under 1" @ 100 yards in both my 338's and met the advertised velocity across my sky screens. They quit making it! I asked why and they said it did not sell. Been begging them to bring it back. I did stash about 15 boxes of the 250 NP's (at close out prices)
Ask them to bring it back! Need support.
One of the very few times I could not out do factory fodder by loading my own ammo.

I load a 225gr sp or a 225gr bonded in my 338.

These were the exact two that worked the best in my 338's.

When Federal quit making the 225 TBBC ,I of course did not know, and had to try to find new loads. I had some 250 NP loaded up and worked good - as did the factory offerring. I really wish the 225 TBBC original would return.

I dont remember them being the HE variety though. But I am sure those are excellent as well.

Federal 225gr TBBC's, I have killed everything from Jackals to Eland with them. Always sub-moa in my Blaser R93's.

I'm goin to give the Federal 210 grain Nosler Partitions a try

For that rifle I would go with either the 210 or 225 grain and maye even 250 for bears. You didn't buy it shot 180 grainers out of it. You can do that with the 30 calibers that you have. Go big!!! It is met to shot bigger bullets.

225 AB and 225 Hornady Interbond work very well in mine.

225grs. If you want to shoot a 180, why not just use a 30-06?

I've had good results with 210 Partition. Reportedly 225 ABs are good too. I'd stay away from any bullets lighter than the 210 grain Partition load personally. I've had good results with 250 grain Hornadys and 250 grain Partitions also.

5 out of 5 dead elk the past 5 years would choose the 225 TSX.

Shot my first moose with a 338 win mag and Federal 210 partitions when I was 16. A broadside shot at 80 yards broke two ribs on each side and exited. The bullet passed right between ribs both sides but completely broke the nearest ribs. My second shot hit it in the femur and was on the inside the hide of the same leg. Had a bit of bloodshot but not too bad. Still about 18" penetration through solid meat and the femur.

As a side note a 308 win with a 165 barnes x bullet will do the same penetration on a moose rear leg. as I made the same shot years later with a 308 and found the bullet lodged against the skin on the opposite side of the leg.

I load 225 Gr. Partitions in my .338 Win Mag. I've never shot an elk with it, but have shot a variety of African Plains Game to include Impala, Warthogs, Zebra, Kudu and Eland. It worked great and is my "go to" plains game rifle.
