Source for 9.3 blanks / barrels
What have you found to be the cheapest source for these? I've found a lot of people don't make them.

I'm thinking of selling the 35 Whelen barrel I already bought, and building a 9.3x62 instead -- it would be just as easy to do, and have the added advantage of being DG legal in Africa. This will be part of a matched pair, the other being a 270 Win. When all the metal is done and working well, I plan to put both into decent walnut stocks.

TIA,

Todd lothar Walter makes barrels already threaded for the Mauser 98 & chambered in 9.3x62. About $150.00 + shipping. They will need to be headspaced.

Todd,
I have a MontanaRifleman barrel on my 9.3x62 Custom. It is one of the most accurate rifles I have ever seen. My maker says the same of the barrel. You can get it contoured, ready for being screwed in, and short chambered. My 'smith who generally chambers his own from scratch, said he could not do the work as cheaply as MR did it.

We used a number 5 contour which made the barrel stiff and gave us some extra weight. It comes long enough to have a 22,24 or 26 inch barrel. Personally, I would not go for cheap, but for good. I think this barrel ready to be installed and short chambered would be about $200. MR has its own web page, so you can check it out yourself. Ku-dude

Thanks for the responses guys.

Doug,

How is ordering from L-W? I have heard it's a bit odd, you tell them what you want, they send you a price in the mail, then you can order? I guess I would probably just go through my gunsmith and let him sort it out.

Speaking of whom, he doesn't have a 9.3x62 reamer -- do they offer long-chambered barrels?
