Have any of you guys used these in a 270 for whitetail? If so, how was the performance?

I've had so/so luck with them. If you can get a neck or behind shoulder shot okay. If into the shoulder not so good. Shot a 7pt with 130g BT @+3100 fps right in the shoulder @ 87yds. Dropped him on the spot. Amazed was I when cycling another round he got up and hobbled away. Tracked approx. 150-200 yds and finished the job with a neck shot. First shot had very little penetration and very little blood loss. Went to Barnes 130 TTSX last year and couldn't be happier. Accuracy very good and devastating on the 2 deer I've shot thus far. I have had wonderful killing results with that bullet and deer. I use it in all my deer rifles from .264 to .358.

Some of the best killing bullets I have ever used. I like 'em and will continue to use them.

I am a big fan of them...

but I use them only with MVs below 2700 fps...

at higher velocity they blow up like a varmint bullet at close range... under that 2700 fps, they penetrate and open up very well...

+1 In my 7mm08, which is balisticly pretty close to the .270, they are the deadliest thing known to deer and hogs. In my 7mm rem mag, they damage only slightly less meat than hitting the deer with a bus. I would not use BTs on anything very large or tough, though they have always fully penetrated for me. Never have recovered a full bullet, though I generally have to pick a few shards out of the meat. FWIW

For my experience, I'm shooting up the rest of some older stock. Some claim that the ones made now hold up better as they are supposed to have a thicker jacket. Nosler's website still claims that they are designed for thin skinned animals and shows a pretty thin jacket at the front portion.

They work quite well on whitetails, muledeer, and antelope. With my 270, and 257Roberts. I wouldn't use them on anything bigger myself.

The last two with the 130s:

115lb Doe, 100yds, broad side, impact behind front shoulder, exit nickle size, nice blood trail, ran approx 75yds.

210lb 11pt, 75yds, quarter to, bullet impacted mid neck, destroyed neck bone, entered chest, exited ribs, and was under the hide behind the off shoulder in a nice mushroom. He was DRT needless to say.

I'll be using them in my Sako 75 Finnlight this weekend on a Texas hunt.

I ordered one of the first boxes of Ballistic Tips in the early eighties when they first came out and have killed a bunch of deer with them over the years. Nearly all were one shot kills, and most were complete pass-throughs. I use 140s in a .280 and a 7mm RM, and 100 grainers in my .25-06. I just switched to Accubonds in my .30-06 this year.

While I have had perfect performance in the -06, sometimes the exit hole was very large and often I'd find bullet fragments all along the wound channel. I may switch to ABs in the .280 and 7 Mag when this batch of bullets are gone.

I will keep using them in the .25 for a long time. When you have over 50 one-shot kills, it tends to instill confidence. I just bought 500 bullets this year. That ought to be enough to keep me supplied for a while.

I shoot the 130 gr BT in my 270WSM, Been using them for the last two years, two deer DRT performance. I also use the BST in my 06, 180 gr, same performance. I haven't had one fail to be complete penetration with a more than adequate exit hole.
