Our Wal mart is marking down all firearm prices for what reason i have no idea?!?! but in the process there is a remington 700 adl walnut 30-06 for $200 and it looks like it might be mine. But can i justify it? I already have a .270wsm a 30-06 and a .308. What do you guys think? If not the remmy how bout the weatherby vangaurd 7mmremmag for the same price? Talk me into somthin here plz.... I need a good reason to get another one.

baboonI would say you could easily make a profit off it.

With carrion men, groaning for burial.
I can never find those deals at Wal Mart, as much as I try. I would buy the 700 and the Weatherby for that price and stick them in the closet. People pay more than that for actions alone! As your firearms tastes change, you can build them, trade them or shoot them.

El DeguelloDear Critter: One never has TOO MANY RIFLES. At one time, I owned five 7X57mm rifles of various makes, and have also owned six different 6.5's at the same time. Right now, I only have four in .30/'06, but am contemplating a 1903 and an M1......

SDhunterI would buy it if I found that deal at the local Wal-mart. If for nothing else, a good donor action. Sell the barrel and stock on ebay. You would have an action for $100. Or leave as is for a truck gun and not worry about it. Who knows, it may be one of those sleeper shooters.
I currently own five 270's and three 338-06's. To go along with a 22-250, two 30-06's, one each of 300WSM, 375 H&H, and 416 Rigby. Hmmmm that got me to thinking....maybe I should sell some. Nah, you can never have too many.
18 March 2006, 03:13
BFaucettWhether one rifle or both..... BUY BUY BUY!!!!
For $200 each I'd buy BOTH the Rem ADL .30-06 and the Wby Vanguard in 7 Rem Mag. If you buy just one, then my choice would be the Wby Vanguard in 7 Rem Mag since you don't have a 7 mag currently (even though the .270 WSM is close). Don't worry about justifying it.

I talked with a local gunsmith who works at a Wal-Mart SG counter. He said many Wallys will stop carrying guns. I will venture a guess that this is happening only in the larger cities.

dempseyA few years ago our local wal mart did the same thing. I was told they had a surplus of rifles that were special ordered but not paid for. The guy at the counter told me they no longer accepted orders without prior payment. I bought a few. They sold enough rifles that the local gun shops saw quite a drop in sales for several months,

Idaho ShooterDempsey, is that you?
The old Dempsey from Shooter's?
Is this where you have been hanging out ever since? I visit here occasionally, but more often at a couple of other sites.
I am glad to see that you are still about. Have a great day!

SuperMagnumPick up as many as you can. You can easily make a profit and the action alone often is around $300-400 at most places.

Stopping tormenting yourself over which to purchase. Get both!
Seriously, one can never have too many rifles. If you run out of room in your safe(s), then buy more safes!
I was at our Wally World last evening, but found no deals such as yours. If I had, I would have scooped them all up.

RiodotI wish I could run into that deal on the 7mm in the Weatherby - I would rebarrel it to a 416 Taylor in a heartbeat.

PumpkinheaverOne ofthe walmarts just south of here(in a farming community)has recently gone out ofthe gun trade . The guy in the sporting goods counter said they didn't sell enough of them to justify it. I find that hard to believe considering where the store is located.
Walk softly and carry a big bore!

muzzleblast525Durn, I've called 10 Wal-Marts in the past hour and one doesn't sell guns anymore, and the others don't have any plans to mark their guns down anytime soon.

thornellI have never bought a gun at wal-mart before and hardley ever shop at one, but I am going to go tomorrow.

LBGuyI have read that WLMT is the largest seller of firearms in the US.
After reading about this potential opportunity, I went to my local Wal Mart yesterday and told the guy at the counter that I had heard that many stores were getting out of the gun business and were offering $200 700s and Weatherbys. He looked at me like I was crazy and said that, not only did he not have any in the $200s, the price on Weatherbys had gone up $20 on Saturday. He also was amazed that Wal Mart wouldn't just collect the ones from other stores and redistribute them.
It saved me a lot of money, because I probably would have taken every 700 and Vanguard they had!

DwightI asked a guy at the gym this weekend that works at Wal mart in the sporting good section and he said they mark down guns that have been on display for a couple of years. He said he got a Winchester 94 a couple weeks ago for $50. He said the bargains were gone at the moment but I went by to check anyway. He was right.

LBGuyI stopped in my walmart a couple months ago and saw the same Fed Premium 30-06 180gr NPs on the shelf that had been there for a couple years at $26.00/box. I had them get the manager, and I asked him if he would sell me those "old" loads as Fed had changed their boxes a couple years ago and he would probably never sell them to anyone else. He turned to the counter lady and asked her if they were old. She said yes, and I bought 5 boxes for $9.00/ea. Going to go back and get the remaining 8 boxes in a few days. "Life is Good!"

RogerGents,
They just opened a new Walmart Supercenter in the area we moved to. It's a small community 30 miles south east of Phoenix Az.
Went to the sporting goods dept. to see the new gun display. NO GUNS!!!
Ask the sporting goods manager when they would be coming in. NO GUNS!!!
Ask if this was temporary, and was told there would be NO GUNS!!!
I inquired as to why, and told this new store was just the beginning of a NO GUNS WALMART!!!
The manager indicated that sales would be tapered off at the balance of the stores. As to why, no idea.
Will just have to wait and see what happens in the future.

cummins cowboyabout 2 yrs ago I bought 3 short action ADL rifles for $200 a a piece, from walmart, sold all of them for around $340 a rifle. nice profit and enough to buy another rifle of my choosing, I would have bought 10 at that price!!! If someone had an action wrench the thing to do would be to yank the barrel and part them out seperatly, you could prolly get close to $400 if parted out, however these where short actions, which I think are a liittle more desirable than long actions in 270win, even still I would buy all they had if they where long actions
in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC
