While I haven't shot it much past 300 yards,I think it would do a good job.

I voted for the 350 Rem mag.
There is just something about the 350 chambered in the Model 600 Carbine. Maybe it's the 200gr bullet at 3000 fps out of a 20" barrel.

375 H&H, one of the very best rounds available anywhere. Fairly easy to shoot. Bullet weights from 220 gr to 350 gr. Ammo available almost everywhere.

I voted for the 35, but the 338 win mag is the next logical step up.

Depends on the rifle you want. They are ballistic twins, nothing one will do the other won't do as well. It is just that one is a short action, one is a standard action.

With a WSM and RUM, both in 300 flavor, there isn't a "need" for anything else, even for bear and elk. Not that any of us here recommend not coming up with an explanation for a new rifle lol.

I agree, if you're going to "step up", then step up! Go 375 H&H. With the 230-250 grain bullets, unless you load hot, the recoil won't be any worse then your RUM, might even be more tolerable.

I voted 35 Whelen, but either will do you fine. I'd go with a 35 Whelen Imp. myself.

I've always wanted a 35 Whelen or 358 Norma Mag...although a 375 H&H is invariably a much better choice that the 358 Norma Mag.

If you want a standard action and something in a medium bore caliber then the 35 Whelen or 9.3x62 are the way to go...

I voted the 350RemMag simply because it is available in a "lighter" rifle. When I go "lookin" at Elk , a light weight rifle is sure nice.

If I wanted to use 250gr Bullets though, it would be the 35Whe and I'd just have to tote the extra weight.

You won't go wrong with either choice.

cripes you guys were talking elk hunting here not elephant! Go buy yourself an 06. As to your question both rounds are so equal that no animal would know the differnce and you certainly dont need any more power then they deliver to kill a frigin elk.

So find a rifle that you like chambered in either cartridge and have at it.

I would much rather have a .338-06 than a .35; the bullet selection is much, much wider.

You simply require a 9.3x62 - sadly you haven't realized it yet - it'll solve your dilema.

Forget those two and go for the real deal; .375H&H. Stay away from the short magnums and wildcats. The .375H&H will do everything you need in North America, and most everything worldwide, can be loaded to lots of different loads with great bullet choices, and ammo is easy to find. They are both ballistically the same, so I would pick between the two on which calibre came in the rifle you like the best.

I used to have a 350 Rem Mag in a Remington Custom Shop Mod 7 and I liked it.

I did however replace it with a 20" 375 H&H.

Since I reload it is easy to duplicate the ballistics and recoil of the 35 Whelen or the 350 Rem mag.
