Of course you could spend the money on it and get a rifle you spent a whole lot of money on that dosent shoot any better. If it works, don't fix it. I've seen many factory rifles that out shoot expensive customs. Then again sometimes you just gotta do these things cause you can.

Unless a rifle is a dedicated varmint rifle, I find 1 MOA to be adequate accuracy for medium to big game, even at extended ranges. That said, I just love a wickedly accurate rifle no matter what the intended use. Is the stock on that rifle an HS Precision, or one of the cheapy ones? If the former, use it. If the latter, go with the McMillan. I've had several custom barrels and IMO the Lilja was the best. Have the action trued when the barrel is installed. For triggers, I have used Timney, a couple of Jewells', and trued Remington triggers. I am just as happy with my trued Rem trigger as with the custom ones, on my hunting rifles. I would suggest having Lilja do the whole job.

If the little Model 7 is shooting as good as you say it is, leave it alone. You can't do a whole lot with that short action as it is. Spend your money somewhere else.

I have a factory Rem Model 7 in 300 SAUM. It will shoot 1" 100 yard groups with handloads and premium factory loads, but I just want to do something different.

What do you think of my current considerations?:

1.) Buy a McMillan Stock, have a Lilja Barrel installed by Lilja and get an after market trigger.

2.) Buy a McMillan Stock, you supply the barrel brand and why you think they are better than Lilja.

3.) Send the action to a custom shop and have the whole rig built.

4.) Buy a Sako.
