Fuches 338 win mag double boltSeen one of these in actual use? How are they faring?

BiebsFuchs has made them for quite some time, obviously not in great numbers. Connecticut Shotgun has a pair of them in 375 H&H. Arab royalty was intrigued by the design, and asked Blaser to make them. Because of the spend of the Arab market on highly adorned Blaser rifles, they went ahead and designed and built them. I saw one...don't know how many they've made. Those and the Fuchs rifles are in the $80K range.

customboltLooks pretty darn trim for what it is and that bolt handle design is just off-the-hook. I wonder how much it weighs.

PeterFit and finish looked pretty good to me. I wouldn't pay $80K for it, but wouldn't mind owning one!

GrenadierI handled a couple at SCI shows. It might have even been the same one both years. Never fired one.
I was impressed by the engineering, fit, and finish. But I found them bulky, awkward, and heavy. Maybe it would be different if given the chance to get used to it.

Brian564If you fire one barrel only and need to replace the fired round, how do you manage that without ejecting the live round as well?

You have half a box sitting below it. You might as well just cycle through it and pick up two more rounds.
The one I saw held 8 rounds of 416 Remington. It was in Cordoba, Spain about 10 years ago at the Spanish version of EWA or the Shotshow.

I'd be highly interested to know why you think it's that bad, apart from the looks which is of course subjective
There is currently a Blaser R93 Duo listed for a lot less than $80,000

RustyAt the DSC show a few years ago I got to handle one like it. It is a
BIG rifle! It seemed well made. the action was smooth. I don't think I'd ever go buy one.

Big Wonderful WyomingPeople don't like them because they are a push feed, bolt action rifle.
Some folks think the gun is the sodomification of the double rifle genre.
I would personally own one. They are at a price point where I don't think that will ever happen.
Some people claim that over under double rifles are just plain wrong.
The same folks consider a scope on a double rifle to be akin to kissing your cousin.

PSmithI could be wrong since I am old and senile but I thought I saw one at SCI that had a titanium receiver which I suppose would reduce weight somewhat.
The rifle(s) I saw looked well made and were certainly interesting.

Not all bad I'd say.For a quick 3rd and 4th shot at dangerous game it seems just the ticket. The barrels could be a good bit shorter to reduce weight. I wish I could design just as good.

Your mind's sharpness kicks mine's ass sir! They do indeed build models with large titanium content to keep weight down.
Not that any of these rifles are essential or anything, but I would love to collect exotic pieces and play with them. Do you know the going price of a healthy kidney?

He had a A-Square rifle fail on a buffalo and decided never again.

338UserAwesome, but wouldn't a BAR in 338 Win Mag with a 10 shot mag be a bit more practical and have all the fire power you needed in that calibre class?

mehulkamdarI know Joseph Szecsei, the inventor of the design, and his associate Willie Beales. Some of their designs are being built by Fuchs, and offered with steel or Titanium bolts depending upon what weight you want, and how much you want to spend.
Mr Szecsei's website is here. I have their latest catalog which Mr Beales sent me, and it has a wealth of details on several as yet unavailable new designs. I am hoping to post them online for them shortly. If you need any information, I'll be happy to put you in touch with them.

I shook hands with Rory Gallatley that tried out the prototype of that thing while these guys where on safari in Zambia. The rifle exploded and blew off Rory's thumb. His grip felt pretty funny with his forefinger being made into his thumb. Rory said they offered to settle with him for $5,000.
