I have had Remington extractors fail on varmint and big game rifles needing to be replaced. It is a very poor design. For reliable extraction they should be replaced with a SaKo or M-16 extractor.
The WW designed extractor and safety are vastly superior.

I have had problems on numerous occasions. Except for target shooting and prairie dog shooting I've gone back to 98 type Mausers. No problems there.

I have shot 700 since the 1960’s.. Probably have a dozen in the safe right now.. Never a problem with any except a .222... After about 10,000 rounds, it extracted fine, but didn’t eject forcefully.. But that is not a problem as I like to take the brass from the action when varmint shooting.. If i pull the bolt back firmly the case rolls out .. I have had serious problems with the old model 70 and the Sako.. Never the 700.. Knock on wood!!!
