Stumbled across Double Tap's 240gr woodleigh weldcore load for .300 win mag. Is a 1-10" twist fast enough to stabilize these loads? 2600 fps at that weight seems like it'd be quite the bruiser of a round for medium range. Anyone played with these?

I would seriously consider a 338 WinMag, RUM, or Lapua.

Way back when, I used factory Barnes 300 Win Mag ammo with the BO (Barnes Original) 250 gr. Shot fine in my 1:10" twist M70.

I loaded 50 for a friend of mine (a guide as well) and they shoot great,the 240's have made the 300 his main bear rifle.

Didn't know Barnes made a 250gr .30 cal X before. Must be quite the long projectile.

Barnes Originals were a C&C design, not an X bullet. Yikes a 250gr 308 X would have to be well over 2" long.

IIRC they still make a few of the BO's in certain calibers like .348 and probably a few others

And in .338" it was a 300 grain. Like MileHigh mentioned, it is cup and core. Today that is covered by the Woodleigh 300 grain .338".

For more modern designs with high BC's, we have a 265 grain TTSX in .338". It is 1.78" long with a .575 BC. In my 338 Win Mag I need to seat the first band into the neck and compress the powder a bit.

but don't stop there. there is a new Barnes 280 grain LRX (=TTSX) in .338" with a .667 BC! The bullet is 1.88" long. It should really compress powder in the 338WinMag. It may not fly that fast, but it will maintain its energy and resist wind drift.
