sakoSavage Model 16FXP3 any good?
I was offered a new Model 16FXP3 rifle with a scope (package deal) in cal 308 and did take a look at it today.
I am not impressed with the stock as it is really rough and has moulding marks all over it but the rest of the rifle looks really good!
I dont know anything about Savage rifles other then what i have read here and know they are accurate.
And what kind of scope is on it??
Ps, any good paint suggestion for a snowcamo on the stock?
Regards

Old CaneI think they are Simmons scopes, cheap ones but ok for what they ask for the package. If you don't like the stock you can always change that as the rest of the rifle is pretty good. I've had 3, all synthetic which I don't like. But it never dawned on me at the time before I sold or traded them off about another stock. I always thought that was out of my league (money and expertise) but now I'm thinking about doing it since I've been doing a little studying. Some replacement stocks are drop-ins, some need a little fitting. I think I'm going to give it a try soon. Overall Savages are very good guns. Some really hate their looks but the deer in TN don't seem to notice.

Gran Cazador BlancoSavages are good guns, overall...but do yourself a favor and get one without the scope, figure on spending $150-$200 more, and get an entry level leupold (rifleman or VXI)-check your local pawn shops, or even wal mart for that matter....other possibilities are a Burris Fullfield II, Nikon Buckmaster or Redfield. Sportsmans Guide magazine had some good deals on Redfields...check them out. These scopes beat the Simmons 8 Point hands down...you won't regret having a nice scope on the rifle, but you will regret having a bad one. As for the rifle itself, savage may be ugly, but they shoot!
