rem 673 guide gun
someone please talk me out of one of these...I kinda got a hankerin! Should I get the 350 rem mag, the 308 and bore it out to 358 win, or the 6.5 rem mag might be fun...

My safe holds: .223, .243, .270, .308, .30-06, 7x57 and a couple of my personal favorties 2 25-06's...

I have been tossing around reboring my ruger 77 rsi .243 to 358 win, but the 350 rem mag does the same job, only better, right?

what to do?

Since you already have a 270 and a 308 get the 350 RM.
I had a 350RM several years ago, and I liked it.
In a Mod7/673 the 350 is a great hunting gun.

My vote... DO something really weird, maybe a .338 federal. Otherwise, you could be a conventialist and do the 350 Rem Mag which would be fun. Oh, I forgot, you shouldn't do it, guns are bad, they detract from the thing your S.O. wants (unless she wants guns)...

Buy the .350. I picked one up a few years ago, and have no regrets.

I was originally playing around with the idea of buying a Ruger 77I (I like the look of Mannlicher stocks) in .308 and rebarrelling to .358, looked at a 673 out of pure curiosity and found that it fit me perfectly.

Once I bought it, and took it to the range, I liked it even more.

Sweet rifle..

They had one in the local shop chambered for .350 rem mag..I checked it out and got a woody that I could hang a wet bath towel on.

Someone else bought it quick.

Go for it. thumb I had one in 350 RM and like a dummy I got rid of it. That cartridge is actually a ballistic twin of the vaunted 35 Whelen. Did I mention like a dummy I got rid of it. thumbdown

I'm actually thinking of buying a 308 and having it rebarreled/rebored to 338 Federal.

Anyone here tried removing the (ugly, heavy, and unneccessary) ventilated rib?

Just as another option, don't forget that Ruger is currently offering the M77 MkII in .350 Rem Mag. Blued or stainless are both available.

If I recall corectly, this gun has no checkering, and is quite heavy.

So personally, I would only buy it if I were to send it ut to have some checkering put on it, and the 350 would be my choice.

The rib is just attached to the barrel via screws with O-rings as cushions.

I loved the way mine felt and balanced. The extra weight was nice with the 350 RM, but would not be needed for the smaller calibers in my opinion.

But I had a couple 338-06's (bolt and pump) made. They have become my medium bore babies so to speak. I needed to make room and raise a little cash. So the 673 went out the door.
