Thomas JonesAliant powders for the 7mmRem mag !
I just bought some barnes 160 grain tripple shocks for my Middle 7 and my Big 7. Middle is an old BDL 7 Mag and big is a model 70 classic in the STW. I bought a pound OF RL-25 for the stw, And i decided to check the Aliant web page load data for RL-22 loads for the 7mm Magnum. They have loads for 3 different 160 grain bullets and it seems to me they prefer the RL 25 for the smaller magnum too. It seems like a prety slow powder for the 7mm Mag, but i decided to give it a try. I loaded 5 rounds i for each of the 2 and I have High hopes. My STW has allways been a tack driver with 160 grain bullets, I am looking forward to a 175 grain tripple shock and or accubond, but i think the 160 grain barnes shoulc be a good dual purpose load for either rifle. IF I can get 3100 and 3300 and decent groups I think there is really no big game animal in the USA except big grizz i would not be real comfortable shooting, but a 175 out of the STW at 3100 would be better still. Have youtried RL-25 in the 7 mag ? ...tj3006 By the way Little 7 is a CZ 550 Full stock 7X57.

fredj338RL22 was my go to powder for the 7rm, then I found IMR7828 & like it even better. I need to give RL25 a try. I 2nd your choice of the 160gr bullet wt. I prefer the good ole 160grNP.

SodakhntrI shoot a max load of RL25 in a 7RM behind a 160 NP.
It is extremely accurate.
Fred expressed some concerns about the velocity I was getting in a 25.5 " barrel.
I would be interested in your results.

cobradRL 22 has been my go-to powder in the .300 mag for years. Never tried it in any of my 7 mags. H4831 has always been my go-to for them.

ReloaderR22 should give you great results in the 7RM. 65-66 grns always gives me great accuracy.
I can't Imagine shooting a 175 Grain XXX, that would be one LOONNG bullet! I've always wondered about having bullets that stuck that far down into the powder column, seems there would be much greater pressures.
Good Luck

El DeguelloI use a lot of RE 22, but have not tried the RE25 yet. My best load for the 7mm Rem. Mag. with a 175-grain bullet has turned out to be with IMR 7828, whereas I used to use Norma N205/MRP for my max. 175-grain combo in the Rem.

jstevensI've always used RL22 in the 7 Rem Mag, bought some RL25 but haven't used it yet. It will easily get you 3050 fps with 160's and 2900 fps with 175's and shoots better than H4831 in my rifle at least. Mine takes quite a bit more powder than some to reach normal velocities than some I've owned before.
