AHR 9,3x62 - Aesthetics advice?
Hello. I was thinking about having AHR make me a 9,3 on their mcmillan stock (I KNOW, I KNOW....wood is nicer), but I don't really care for the length of the forearm on that stock and wanted a bbl band front swivel (ditching the one on the stock of course). I am thinking about having them shorten the forearm and move the rear sight back. Any recomendations on forearm length (24" bbl) and rear sight position? I want to get the rifle outfitted properly so I can theoretically maybe someday stock it in wood. I have attached some amateur photoshop before and after to give an idea what I am thinking. Anything else you guys would do with this rifle (besides have it stocked in wood to begin with)...or should I just say "screw it" and take it as offered?

My rule of thumb is half the barrel length minus another inch & a half.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

tendrams,

I like the idea of a wood stock and a barrel band - MY 2 cents!

a short forestock in wood and a barrelband looks nice, for sure. at the same time, i can realize the desire for a totally no- maintenance handle on a gun bound for hunting bigger game in bad weather country.
one nice thing about a man's rifle...he builds it the way he wants to and everyone respects that. they're all good looking, as well!

Real rifles have barrel bands.
