6.8 SPC in a bolt gun.
I did a search and found some good intentions, but did anyone ever build a small actioned bolt rifle in 6.8 SPC? Remington has apparently dropped their LTR in that caliber and CZ's never came to fruition...

Seems like a CZ 527 with a 20" barrel would be quite the little venison maker. Smiler

I guess I would consider it in an AR15 type platform but I would rather just shoot a .260 Rem.

The 6.8 SPC was always going to make more sense in a self loader. However, there are still 700 LTR's and PSS's out there, new.
They were never big sellers. It shouldn't be too hard to find one. If you run into problems, the local shop has several in the PSS, that they are trying to clear.

Cheers, Dave.

Check out this thread on Utility Rifles on my web site. ChopperGuy built up one in a left handed CZ. You need to use different bottom metal.

It's several pages long, but shows both my 6.8spc on a Ruger 77MKII and ChopperGuy's CZ.

I looked at a Ruger 77 mkII yesterday, in 223, and saw that the bolt is push feed. The bottom of the bolt face is not cut out as it is for the larger cartridges. I was a little surprised to see that, but there must be a reason, and it must work fine.

I suppose the face will have to be opened for the 6.8mm cartridge, as I think it's a little larger. I suspect it would be great for squirrels, if you can make head shots. Wink

I would rather have a 6.5 Grendel Big Grin

Thanks for the input, I looked at the magazine and bolt head on our .223 CZ527 and I don't believe it'll fit in that format, may take a look at one in 7.62x39...

I bought an Interarms Mini Mauser with the idea of building a 6.8 SPC, but decided that it was a round that served no useful purpose in my herd. I mean, if you can't kill everything from field mice to deer with a .224" 60 grain Partition from a 223, you really need to work on your hunting and shooting technique!

I too reached the conclusion that the 6.8mm or the 6.5 Grendel fits into way too narrow a niche to spend the kind of money it takes ot buy or build a good bolt action rifle so chambered.

If you're talking of the AR15, I think maybe that's a little different story, but don't know for sure.

I think probably the 260 would be a better choice in a short bolt action. Much easier to deal with, and plenty of power for deer, where the 6.8 is marginal at best.

Heck, I'm still trying to figure where my CZ in 7.62x39 fits in. I'm planning of using it for some snowshoe bunnies next fall, and just blasting targets, and think about it some more. I'm a little hesitant to try it again on the Texas hogs, as the last one I shot got away, and became buzzard food. I know buzzards gotta eat too, but I wanted that pig. With a 308, I don't think the pig could have left the field.

At least I got a very good reminder of how much I hate following a wounded critter into the thickets.

The guys on the 6.8 forums and my friend ChopperGuy used the CZ 223Rem action/rifle as a starting point and use the bottom metal and magazines from a 7.62x39 with no modification to the magazines necessary.

i built a left handed one several years ago on a mini mauser action for my boy when he was a bit smaller. works fine and is accurate. is a nice trim rifle that was easy for him to shoot.

I have a 6.5 Grendel project on a CZ 527 in the works, but it isn't out of necessity.

If you're looking for a little venison rifle, the stock CZ carbine in 7.62x39 is a dandy rifle with handloads. The one I'm keeping stock will shoot MOA with handloads and push a 150 grain Sierra .311 bullet at nearly 2200 fps with RL-7.
