fla3006Re: Looking for a good .270 bolt rifle
If accuracy and low cost are your main criteria, and the rifle must be brand new, then the Savage, CZ or Charles Daly Mark X should fit the bill. A Ford or Chevy will get you from point A to point B as well as a Lexus or Mercedes but it won't have the finer points.

ReloaderRifleman,
Yesterday evening I stopped at a local Pawn shop here in Louisiana, they had some fine rifles at a great price. They had several used Rem. Mod. 700s in 30-06 and 270 win for around 230-250 dollars. These rifles were in great shape, some of them didn't have any scratches at all. The bolts were nice and smooth. The barrels looked as if they had not been fired hardly any.
You might want to check into something like that.
Good Luck!

kutenaymtnboyI strongly second that as these are two of the finest production rifles ever made. I have owned several .270s, bought my first in '68, there is no better cartridge for 90%+ of North American hunting and all of mine have been sub moa shooters. It is an easy round to load for, gentle on the shoulder and will kill Elk and Moose very dead with one shot. I think that you would be really happy if you got a Pre-64 or FN and would treasure the rifle for the rest of your days.
There is far more to rifles than shooting small groups, just as there is more to rifle knowledge than acting like a loudmouth jackass..........

In the $600.00 range +/- My choice would be
A used pre 64 mod 70 or Ray's FN.
I have owned 3 savage, a 270,30.06 and 338wm.They shoot.But I would never say they are a "fine" rifle.Functional, yes.Just not to my liking.
My pre 64 I flat out Love that rifle. And it feels perfect
in my hands.A joy to hunt with.
That's my .02

ReloaderRifleman, I will tell you what I bought and maybe you will like the setup, maybe not.
I got a Savage Mod. 16 "Weather Warrior" (Stainless) Price: $400 (It was last years model w/o the Accu-trigger)
I put Leupold Rifleman Mounts on. Price: $19
Bought a Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40 Bal. Plex Reticle. (Scope came w/ a free spotter) Price: $197 + $10 shipping. (SWFA.com)
Total: about $630.oo Not too bad for a real tack driver.
If you dont like stainless, you could get a Mod 110 or 111 for less. I would recomend that Burris scope, for the money it cant be beat. I think my Burris is a good bit better than some of my more expensive scopes.
Another scope that is great for the money, is the Simmons Aetec. I have one on my Savage ML 10 II. It has been through some tough, rough elements and never lost its zero. You can get one for around $130.
Just some ideas. Good Luck w/ your search.

ReloaderI dont understand why Savage is getting bashed. I have shot several diff. makes and models of rifles and the three Savages that I own are some of the smoothest bolting, safest, and most accurate rifles on the market. I guess you all forgot that they are one of the oldest gun makers around.
I shoot Remington and Weatherby rifles alot but, there isn't anything they can do that a Savage cant.

MikelravyI guess now I am an elitist. Anybody want my Marlin 30/30 or my Mossberg pump. Can't be seen with them anymore.
