30-30 leverevolution
I went to the range today to try out the Leverevoultion cartiges in my savage 340. These were factory ammo and yet I had 2 split necks, and the primers poped out a bit. What is going on here? never had a problem with factory ammo in this gun before. Though my 30 Rem. somtimes splits necks as well.

Are your cases stamped "Frontier" or "Hornady"

Also, it's best if one has contacted the manufacturer prior to posting these things on the internet. They should be given first chance to make the situation right with you!

For the 30-30 it was regular Hornady brass
The 30 Rem is Rem brass.

I was thinking it was somthing to do with the rifle and not the cartrige, would the chamber dimention cause this.

Try several rounds in another rifle to see if the problem goes away. Also try several rounds of another ammo make to see if the split necks continues.

BTW....Frontier stamped brass is made by Winchester and the Hornady branded stuff is made in Grand Island by Hornady and is excellent brass.....

Good thinking, it is possible if the chamber neck is too large that brittle brass could split. Face it, the vast majority of .30-30 shooters do not reload and .30-30 cases may not be held to the best QA/QC as long as they are safe to shoot once. At least they aren't made in China.....yet.

Other ammo does not do it in the 30-30, why would the primers push out a little?

Primers stick out due to low pressures and excess headspace.

I had the same thing happen in T/C Contender Carbine barrel. I wondered "what the heck" too. The funny thing is that it did it in the Carbine barrel but not my Super 14 barrel. I guess the chamber in the carbine barrel had issues. I sold it....

I have shot a full box of the lever evolution ammo through my Savage 340 with no ill effect. I wonder if that lot is a little over pressure. Popping primers and split necks would lead me to believe it was a pressure issue especially if other ammo doesn't do it in your rifle.
Contact Hornady and make them aware of it.

Check with hornady for lot numbers. There were some leverevolution ammo recalls when it hit the market several years ago--- you may have the lot that was recalled if it 'sat' on the shelf.

Contacted HOrnady and they said that is was the box that I had was in their recall list.

That Hornady ammo is pretty impressive on water bottles. The difference between Remington and Hornady, was dramatic. FWIW

have not shot the leverevolution in 30-30, but the 308 me leverevolution bullets are way too soft for shots under 75 yards!
