Tikka T3 308 and Speer Grandslams????
I am looking for a starting point to build a load from...my powder choice is Varget...teh bullet weight is 165gr's....any suggestions

My thought so far was to start at 42 grains of Varget and work up from there while seating the bullet to the cannelure...does this sound like a fine place to start? Any help and tips will be greatly appreciated

PS I don't have a chrony,in case the question arises....my shooting distance will be from 50 to 300 yards, mainly on deer sized game

I don't recommend just seating this bullet to the cannelure and using that as your starting oal. Trust me, I did just that with a 25-06 and 120 grand slams. Didn't take me long to realize the bullets were seated into the lands. You should use a once fired case that has not been resized to determine your proper oal. 42 gr. of varmint seems like a good starting point though, as I believe 46 gr is max.

The other load that I forgot to list on the paper were Nosler CT's in 165's with 44 gr's of Varget...15 rounds on that paper..this has been,by far,the most accurate rifle I have ever layed my hands on...it almost makes shooting seem effortless

I don't know what most guys think of them, but I sure am convinced of the accuracy potential...
My Boss's kid has the identical rifle in 30.06,and the darn thing shoots unreal with the factory ammo as well

Hey Alf
I went looking for those cheap Tikka package deals you mentioned but I can't find any. Gunbroker had one in .270 but it eas $650 or there abouts. Where does a guy go to look at those cheap Tikka packages?
Chola that rifle and you are shooting very well. I don't need a new rifle but from what everyone says about there Tikka's being so accurate you never know I may need one!
