.308 Win vs. .308 Obermayer
Wondering what the difference between the two is and what benefits would be gained by using the slightly tighter match chamber Obermayer vs. the standard .308 Winchester chamber.

Anyone using the Obermayer chamber or know much about it?

Tight chambering is nothing new and has been done on match and benchrest rifles for years. Accuracy is what you will gain, if all of the "other" factors ( barrel, stock bedding etc) are correct and contribute to the package.

There are other ways to do the same thing though without the tight chambering which is less than desirable in a hunting rifle. One method that I like on dual use rifles is take a chamber cast, and then get a custom die made for the rifle. After fireforming new brass the brass is resized in the custom die and it ends up being the net same effect of a " tight chamber". These dies aren't expensive and almost any rifle can benefit ( there are some issues with chambers this won't fix so I'll modify the almost any to: any good chamber)

I had the choice of the Obermyer or Palma 95 chamber reamer when I did my 308, they are sismilar except for some slight variances, a call to JGS Reamer will clarify the diff's. I chose the Palma reamer and have never looked back, I handload but I can use factory match ammo without a problem either, in general these reamers will yield better accuracy from over the counter ammo even if you don't handload. I will stress that they are for presicion rifle chambers.
