Alex, didn't ever think about the M-75 in varmint model in 30-06, but I'm sure like all their others it will shoot well. I'm not sure what kind of a varmint cal. 30-06 is, if that is your purpose, I think I would advise another cal. if it was going to be a dedicated varminter, maybe ask over on the varmint hunting forum.

I'm a big fan of the M-75 action, I like the detachable box magazine option, if your's will have one, make sure to buy a spare mag, you'll like it.

Good Luck--Don

Interesting. I have never heard of that model (75 Varmint) chambered for .30-06. .308, yes, but it's built on the III action and smaller, which won't accomodate the .30-06.

Meanwhile, Sako 75s are the best there is.

According to the sako brochure, the 75 varmint is listed in 30.06 on the 1V action. I may be totally mis-guided and for some strange reason it's not available to the uk, I havnt asked the gunshop yet im still undecided. I've been thinking of streamlining my rifles, at the moment ive got a 17rem, .243, and a 7mm08. The .17 is being converted to a Tactical .20 and I was thinking of selling the .243 and 7mm08 and upping the stakes for a 30.06.

One small problem I love the .243 and the 7mm08 shoots like a dream.
I will wait till the tac .20 gets back then see.

No British stalker should be without a 243!

What you will pick up with a 30-06 over a 7mm08 is a bigger selection of heavier factory ammo but seeing as you're going to have a 20 you must reload.

The 30-06 would be of benefit on boar, moose etc which seeing as you're going for a varmint style is probably not on your list.

So I think you might be dissapointed in the lack of difference.

The "1V" means the number 4 size action. The V doesn't stand for "Varmint". I wish they would make it! It would be a great soft kicking long range hunting rifle that really woudln't be too heavy. I've got my namesake FNMauser at the smith's right now gettign a longer heavier ss barrel in '06 installed. Lots of people claim that the .308 will just about match a 30/06 and there is some truth to that unless you handload the 30/06 to its potential. I guess you'll have to look at the .308 till Berreta decides to make the Varmint in the number 4 action. Good luck! FNMauser
