What glass is on your '06?

MileHighShooterWhat glass is on your '06?
Picked up my M70 SS Classic FWT 30-06 this afternoon. Already in love with this gun and haven't even shot it yet!
My question is, what are you guys doing for glass on your 06's? I'm thinking 2-8x32 Nikon for this one (partial to Nikon glass) but I am curious to see what other people go with.
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Alberta CanuckRather than tell you what is on my '06 as I now have 13 of them, I'll tell you what I recommend. That would be ANY top notch 2x7x32.
If one can't hit an animal one would normally shoot with an '06 at up to 400 yards, with a 7 power scope, I don't think the scope magnification will be the poblem. With 7X magnification ,one should be able to see the animal as well as he/she could at 60 yards with the naked eye.

ramrod340Let's see on my 06 I have a

Oops I don't own an 06.

Since 90% of my rifles wear a 3x9 then I guess if I had one that is what it would wear.
If you prefer a lighter scope something like the 2x7 would work.
As usual just my $.02

I agree, I have Burris 2x7's on all my rifles.

GerryMy '06 sports a Docter 2.5-10x48 illuminated #4 German recticle. Pretty flexible optic for daylight, twilight, night time & close-up hunting.
Like the cartridge, I consider the 30/06 Sprg. a true all-rounder; so the scope is like that, too.

Ghubert Zeiss 7x50 IR and before that a 7x50 Meopta.
A great all round scope but as the two gentlemen above identify, a little limiting if driven game is on the menu, but otherwise all you need on an '06.

The point is evening/night hunts from stands.
Limited field of view for driven hunts, however - takes a lot of getting used to!

the jiggerI also am partial to Nikon glass. All of my sporter weight hunting rifles wear 3X9X40 Nikons. There are surely "better" scopes out there but not for the dollar spent.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

StonecreekIf you choose a variable, keep the top end magnification 10X or under and the objective 40mm or smaller. More magnification just costs more, is wasted -- or worse, gets in the way -- as does a larger objective.
Since your rifle is a "featherweight", you may wish to keep the scope light and compact also, which would indicate a 2-7x33 or a 2.5-8x36.
Like Alberta Canuck said, anything you'll be shooting with your '06 inside of 400 yards can be easily sighted when magnified no more than 7 times. After all, I'm assuming you didn't buy it to shoot primarily at ground squirrels.
06 February 2012, 21:22
Greg KI've changed all my centerfire rifles to either a 2.5-8X or 3.5-10X Leupold.
I only bought one new, the remaining 4 scopes were purchased used.

I love FNs! I have two -06s, one 270 and one 257. A tad heavy perhaps, but the best sporting rifle ever built in my opinion.
07 February 2012, 00:00
larrysWhat Stonecreek said. My Highwall has a Leupy VariX-II 3-9 and the custom I built is being changed out to a Nikon Prostaff 3-9. But I do have a Featherweight in 6.5x55 and the 2.5-8x32 Leupold I have on it is more fitting on that rifle. It just looks right as well as feeling right.

BlacktailerSince my -06 is built as a light rifle I have a 2-7 ultralight Leupold. 7lb 2oz without shells.
Plenty of magnification at high power, large FOV and close focusing at low power, Never had a problem with low light shooting and doesn't ruin the balance and handling of a light rifle.

7x57I have an old steel tube Weaver 6x on mine and love it. I have killed everything I have shot at from 20 feet to 200 yards. I tried a leupold
6x42 but the scope is not long enough to get the correct eye relief on long action bolt guns.

I see some really nice looking '06's here mine is so ugly that I won't even post a picture!
Ted nice lookin deer and rifle there.
For me the 3-9 has been perfect for the type of hunting I do from 10 yards to 450 yards I feel like I have the right scope for the job.
