Nitro ExpressWhat is this?
A friend of mine has his late father's sporterized 30-06 and wants to know who manufactured it.
I am pretty sure I know the answer but will defer to you experts.
All my friend knows is that his father said it was a "WWII rifle" that he customized.

ramrod340Looks to me like a US Springfield 1903A3. WWI or early WWII. They were made by numerous manufactures. There are numerous Springfield experts that will have the answer.
As usual just my $.02

45ottoThat is a 1903A3 springfield. Since the action ring is covered by a scope mount I can't tell manufacturer. Perhaps others may know by serial number.

Paolo9,5x73Looking at shape/finish of bolt handle, those rings and "Mickey Mouse" scope it belongs in 'More Not Well Known & Unknown' section of Michael Petrovs' book.

StonecreekThe period Weaver scope is hardly "Mickey Mouse", but the amatuerish bolt cut in the stock indicates a "home cooked" sporterization.
Nonetheless, it's a fairly nice old Springfield that's nothing to be ashamed of.

Nitro ExpressHere's a photo of the opposite side, if that's any help.
I really wasn't looking for evaluation of the rifle or its components--just trying to help a friend figure out what company manufactured his father's '06--

Ah, but you see, you don't get a choice. Any picture put up on an internet board is subject to criticism on content and composition whether or not anyone is actually addressing the question asked.
