steve4102New Rifle Help
I have a hair in my ass to purchase a new rifle. I can't decide on a caliber. This is a list of the rifles I have now.
7.62x39, 7mm-08, 6.5x55, 30-06, 300WSM, 9.3x62.
I think I would like something different or a little out of the ordinary. Got any ideas??
Thanks

SnowwolfeBuy Big! Everyone at the range will want to know what you are shooting. Maybe a 375 or 416. Then load it down for hunting deer and bear in your area.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

z1rBig is nice but a .223 is something you can shoot a lot and feed for cheap.
I like my little cz carbine but I also just got a Stevens 200, lotta gun for little money. It shoots like nobody's business. If not the .223, then a .22 Hornet CZ. That's next on my list!

z1rWhat I find kinda funny is this is the medium bore forum and not one respose so far advising a medium bore.
While I like my cz 7.63x39, and while it is cheap to feed, it ain't a .223. There is an obvious void where a small bore should be. I supose you could say the same about a big bore.

LorenzoI think you are already pretty well equiped with those calibers......
Something new and different..mmmmm....I think you will enjoy a marlin lever action in 444 marlin. I have had one and they are beatiful rifles, they are handy, the safe doesnt make any noise when released, they can stand a lot of beating, etc.... and the 444 is a deadly caliber for the woods....
That would be my choice

Critter_KillerLooks like you got all the bases covered. Time to bringem home, a 45-70 marlin lever would be awsome.

RobinBYou really need a 22 lr.
Did you hear about the dyslexic agnostic insomniac? He stayed up all night wondering if there's a dog.

interboatYou have smallbores covered. The 9.3x62 is your medium bore. You need something big, like a .416.

steve4102Looks like I need to go big or small. I kinda like the idea of a lever gun like the 444 Marlin. How about the 450 Marlin??? Any thoughts on this cartridge?

7x57mmFrom the looks of your calibers I think you may handload. If that is the case, you gotta rush down to the store and buy a CZ 527 American in .221 fireball. I have one in .223 and it is sweet, but that little fireball goes one step beyond. With a proper scope setup, you can pop p-dogs out to 300 or more yards. You need a scope with very thin crosshairs so when the critter is way out there it does not get covered up by the crosshairs. Anyway, that CZ 527 is a real sweetheart and the .221 fireball just compliments it. Good Luck ... Tom Purdom

kmanHow about a 358 STA?
Guy at the rang has one. It's "different" and sure packs a punch.

z1rSteve if you want a big lever gun, I'd get either the .444 or .45/70. The .45-70 is more versatile if you handload than the .450. The .444 marlin is on my buy list even though I already have a .45-70.

LorenzoSteve,
I think that being all your rifles bolt actions a lever action one will be something different.
The 444 with those Hornadys in 265 grains is a terrific rifle, I remember mine being very accurate at 140 metres.
The 450 Marlin must be a great one also..but I don't have any experience with it.

weagleIf you don't have a quality .22lr bolt gun then that's a no brainer for your next gun.
Assuming you have the rimfire, You NEED a .358 winchester.
Good shooting,
